For me $250 isn’t bad but I think the majority will disagree on that.

Mine were abut $185 each, and the bridesmaids helped me pick them out.  They were all okay with that price point, but I think it really depends on your girls.  Talk to them and see what they are comfortable with.

As for looks, I really prefer the short one!

You know your group of friends, and what they can afford. Personally, I would hate asking my friends to spend that much on a dress, but that’s because I know it would be a lot of money to them. If your friends are rolling in it, go for it. If you think they’ll have to put it on a credit card, look for other options.

I think maybe you should shell out something for your BMs if you badly want this vision for your wedding. Say anything costing over $175, you’ll cover?

eep well I think you should think about your maids and their financial situation as individuals…

I think each of them could get a KILLER black dress with some interesting design flares (one shoulders, floor length, ruffles, interesting straps, the list of details could go on!) for much less than $250 and they would have a gown they each love…

$250 wouldn’t be something I’d LOVE to pay, but I would do it for the bride.

If I think about my maids, I had to find a SUPER affordable dress that looked good as well because basically all of them were in terrible financial situations and no one really had a job or room to pay a lot… I actually found $60 DB gowns that were awesome but still no one had the money so I ended up paying for them myself… lame huh?

Anyway, I think you should probably think of your maids first.

But if It were me, I LOVE black dresses (I think they are incredibly chic and sophisticated!) and because I know most girls LOVE the option of choosing a style they love, I would choose black as the Bridesmaid or Best Man dress color and just tell them it needs to be satin and floor length… then let them find the cool dresses that will make your bridal party look wow like you want!

In general, $250 is what I expect to spend when I’m asked to be in a wedding (for just the dress… pre-alterations and accessories), but right now, I’d have to decline if I were asked to be in a wedding with a dress than expensive since there would be no way to fit it in my budget.

I voted 50-100 but honestly I’m just giving them a color swatch and saying “go nuts.” πŸ˜€ Seriously don’t make them buy a mega expensive dress though if they don’t normally buy that sort of thing… it’s a bit mean.

My bridesmaid dresses were $200 each and I paid for all three. These dresses will be their gift. Perhaps you could do the same?

I’m in love with the last bridesmaid dress option so pretty! *_*

To me $250 is a lot to spend on a bridesmaid dress I want my girls to wear something affordable and something they can wear again. I have choosen for them to wear a black tea-length dress and my mom wanted them to have more color so I compromised with her and added a colorful sash around the waist, could something like that work for you instead?

Since I am having the bridesmaids buy their own dresses I am in the $90-115 range and that is because I asked them what price point they were comfortable with. Try asking your bridesmaids where they’d like to start and where they end in their price range.

I found a website that sells two-toned bridesmaid dresses for a reasonable price: http://www.artwedding.com/two-toned-knee-length-satin-sheath-bridesmaid-dress.html

The page link I sent you is of a one two-toned bridesmaid dress in particular but maybe you could hunt around on the website and find more that you might like?

    Good luck~

The short one is super cute! I guess it wouldn’t be too bad.. Plus that last one I would totally wear again!

    I LOVE that short dress!

The last wedding I went to had all the BM’s in long dresses and it didn’t make the wedding feel more formal.  I think if you require more formal dress of your guests and the event itself is more formal, that’s what it will be.

If the other elements are not as formal, I’d do the short dress in a heartbeat!

FWIW, I usually guess I’m spending $300 on a Bridesmaid or Best Man outfit (dress, alterations, shoes).

So I bought my bridesmaids’ dresses becaues I got them on clearance at BHLDN for $80. I voted, but mine was a unique situation.

I’ve paid almost $300 for my bestfriend’s wedding. It hurt the pocketbook, but I’d do anything for her! Just make sure the women in your wedding party can TRULY afford it and are comfortable with it.

If it’s rewearable, that helps a lot!

ETA: The short dress is fab! So unique! I could see someone wearing it to fancier parties going forward.
