…but I have no idea what to get my SO for christmas. Back story: I am phenominal at christmas. I have a weird nack for getting people that thing that they had no idea existed but are madly in love with it once they see it. I’ve had people cry tears of both joy and laughter. People WEEP. It’s a lot to live up to, but I somehow manage every year.
However, I’m currently feeling like I’ve gotten my SO everything there is to be gotten. This will be our 6th christmas we’re celebrating together. There have been kindles, play stations, hard to find comic books, tickets to see Louie CK, Batman seat covers for his car, artwork from etsy inspired by his favorite nerdy things, a beach cruiser, ninja turtle beer mugs… this list could go on for eternity. I’m starting to worry I’ve exhausted all of my options over the years. Thus far I’ve picked up a few small gifts for him, but I cannot for the life of me think of that one big thing that says “BAM! It’s CHRISTMAS bitches!!” Is anyone else feeling this way? Is this an inevitable point we all come to when we’ve been with someone long enough? Or, even better, does anyone else have a secret weapon of boy gifting that I somehow haven’t thought of? Anyone? little help?

@KoalaWalla: Ugh… I agree that it may be due to the time you’ve been together. This is my 7th year with FI – so that’s 7 anniversaries, 7 valentine’s days, 7 bdays and 7 xmas’ – and I’ve totally run out of ideas. Can you imagine when you add father’s day to the mix? Saving for a wedding combined with Mr’s expensive tastes don’t help… I actually suggested the other day that we should stop doing big gifts for special occasions and just save the money and go on one 1 big vacation maybe every 2 years.
It’s so difficult – I totally feel your pain…

Can you been us bees ideas that interest him? Hobbies? Etc? Maybe one us can help you out.

@KoalaWalla: You’ll have to share some of these earth-shattering gift ideas. I have a knack for the opposite…giving that gift that my family members look at for a total of 5 seconds, then quickly stash in the deepest darkest place possible.
How about a picture collage and/or scrapbook of memories, which is something you’d have to make, not buy?

I really love experiences as gifts, so I would suggest something like beer of the month, cooking/drawing/whatever classes, skydiving etc.

My secret weapon for my SO? A secret list. Whenever he talks about really genuinely wanting something, I lock it away in my mind or write it down.
Have you thought about making him something? I don’t know how crafty you are, but if you make something that caters to his interests then you can have unlimited options. For example, I made my SO a hat for his birthday one year–in his favorite color–and he loves it, he wears it every winter. Or, you could pay someone else to make something for you.

I don’t know how much of a drinker your SO is but I got mine a Mr. Beer home brewing kit last year. You can buy tons of different flavors and bottle your own beer. He loves it.

I’m a fellow awesome gift giver! Holla!
I start thinking about Christmas gifts months in advance. I’ll brainstorm and make a bunch of lists. And if SO mentions something he wants, I’ll add it to the list, even if it’s in the middle of summer. He usually forgets he ever mentioned it by the time Christmas rolls around, so he’s usually way surprised!
They have The Dark Knight Trilogy (blu-ray) on Amazon for $29 — does he enjoy those movies? That’s 3 movies for $29! I’ll be getting my SO those.
Is your SO into golf at all? Something else I’m getting mine is a 10 bucket punch card to the local driving range, since he has been wanting to improve his “game”.
A couple other things: The Hunger Games on blu-ray, a cast iron skillet (he wants one for tailgating and camping), Monopoly (he has been wanting to play but doesn’t own the game), a Fun. shirt (his current favorite band) and a Mizzou gnome statue (his favorite team).

I second the Mr. Beer kit. I bought FI the starter kit last year and he loved making his own beer. IT was really easy! Also, we got a cooking class voucher last Xmas and we weren’t sure about it. Had a freaking blast!

Maybe you can browse thinkgeek.com and see if there’s anything that catches your eye? I always find things FI would love and I’m getting a few members of the wedding party small things as part of their gift.

@KoalaWalla: try these, maybe one will spark something…
I know how you feel, this year I got DH stuff he needs but hates spending money on. Wallet, jeans, t-shirts, a cool massegy thingy.
