And it’s STILL not here!!!!!
I bought it in June 2012.
They said it’d be here in December 2012 or January 2013.
I mailed a payment in July or August and verified that the dress WAS in fact ordered.
Well, I called in February and it wasn’t in – the woman I talked to said that the shop got backed up when they closed for a month for the holidays and the dress would be here in April.
So the first week of April I called to confirm. The woman on the phone was nasty and said I’d have to call back during the week to talk to the manager. I asked how it was possible that she couldn’t look in the computer to check the status of the dress. So I was on hold for about 10 minutes and she came back and said it shipped.
THEN I got a voicemail about 3 days later from the manager saying that the dress would ship the 3rd week of April and had to clear customs.
Well, here it is, the last weekend in April and still NO DRESS. The store opens in about an hour so I am going to call again but ….. AUGH!!!!
I know I have 5 months until my wedding, but seriously?!!?!?!?!? This is IN-SANE. If my dress comes in May, that will have taken ELEVEN MONTHS!!!!!
WHAT. THE. HELL.!?!?!?!
Am I wrong to be pissed off???

@Stace126: Aww, sad! 🙁 That will sometimes happen though. Depending on the designer of dress, sometimes it will take 10-12 months for a dress to come in – if they’re backed up, then you may have to give it a little while longer. I totally understand being anxious about it though! But if your wedding is in September, you’ll have plenty of time for alterations, even if it does come in next month!

I’m amazed you’ve had the restraint not to kill someone by this point! I’d be fuming. Fortunately you still have plenty of time for alterations.
(Honestly, the more I hear about all of these problems with bridal shops, the more convinced I am that replica shops like Jasmine’s are the way to go.)

@Stace126: Just curious, since I’m local, where did you order it from?
I’d be very pissed off. Sometimes things do cut stuck in customs seemingly forever, though.
I’d ask the store to call the designer and find out tracking info.

You are definitely NOT wrong to be upset :(. I would be furious, eleven months is absolutely ridiculous – especially if the estimated date they gave you was Dec/Jan. Fortunately you still have some time from your wedding, but I can only imagine if you hadn’t been so dilligent and got your dress ordered over a year in advance. Did you order your bridesmaid dresses from the same place? Are you having the same problem with them? I honestly feel so frustrated with bridal shops, I’ve don’t know any brides from the wedding parties I’ve been in that had great experiences, and for myself, I’m not happy with the shop I ordered from either. Can I ask who the designer of the dress is? Let us know what they say when you call today!

@Ennie: I got it from Carlisle’s in the North Hills (they used to be in the Strip District). The shop has been around for, like, 50 years and they’re really well known in Pittsburgh and most of their reviews were good so ….. I don’t know.
I honestly don’t even know who the designer is. When I asked when I bought the dress, they said it was a “house” designer. So I have no idea what that means or where it’s coming from.
I am probably going to have my alterations done by a family friend so …. sigh.
We did not get our bridesmaid dresses there – went to Alfred Angelo for that. The 2 girls who ordered their dresses in January got them in February (WOW) and the other 2 girls just ordered theirs a few weeks ago so fingers crossed that those come in early too.

just called ….. the dress is in customs and due to ship to the shop next week. The store manager said she’s checking on them every week.
I asked her if it was normal for a dress to take this long and she said no, in fact, she’s discontinuing this particular manufacturer because their shipping time has been out of control.
God please let it FIT!!!!

I can understand the freak occasion that causes a dress to be that late to ship but what would have pissed me off is the way they treated u. Just unacceptable. I’m happy ur dress is on its way now. Kudos for being so calm in the face of such utter crap!

Wow – the lying and sneaking is what gets me. FWIW though, my dress took over 8 months to get in..

UPDATE: my dress is HERE!!!! I am going to pick it up tomorrow.
So nervous and excited!!!!

WOW! I can’t believe how long it took – who’s the designer? I ordered my dress back in Mid-December, last I checked it was suppose to ship yesterday, and I was told it generally takes an additional 5 – 10 business days to arrive at the shop. I’ve been having nightmares that it’s the wrong color, wrong dress, wrong style – I’ll sleep better at night once I’ve seen it! Hope picking it up goes well! I’m sure it’ll have been worth the wait!!

- Wedding: September 2013 - Ontario, Canada
I’m so glad you got it! Let us know how you on with the fit 🙂 my wedding is September, I ordered my dress in July 2012 and it is due in 2 week (called the store earlier this week to check) so it will be 10.5 months for me too so I feel your pain. I have to say that my bridal store has been great and didn’t tell me any lies so I knew what to expect. Am so excited for it to come in though – its been a looooong wait!

Well I picked my dress up.
The day/event was not as great as I anticipated. : /
First of all, the 30 minute drive on the highway turned into a two hour journey of sitting in bumper to bumper traffic on a windy back road because there was a really bad accident on the highway.
I was an hour and a half late for my appointment! Luckily, the shop was understanding.
But when I stepped into my dress, it zipped up ….. but it is REALLY tight in the bodice. And the straps/bust are really big. Sigh.
I’m pretty disappointed. I either need to lose 10 lbs. or have it taken out.
I have been trying to lose the “last” 5-10 lbs for MONTHS and I just can’t get over this hump. : (
And I’d be really embarassed to have to have it let out.
Oh and for the alterations (let out the bodice, take in the straps/bust, hem, and bustle), they quoted me $300 – $400, which I just don’t have.
Feeling really let down.

@Stace126: So sorry to hear that you’re having so much dress stress! Have you taken your dress to a few places to get quotes for the alterations? Maybe you can get a break on it from somewhere. The money part is definitely stressful though, I understand that for sure. Everything will work out and you will make a beautiful bride, even if the road is bumpy on the way!
