Last week, I walked into Publix at random after work and ordered a 3-tier square cake. I totally put forth a half-assed effort and didn’t even book a tasting. I chose my tiers as: 1) Chocolate + german chocolate filling, 2) marble + rum pecan, and 3) vanilla + raspberry.
In and out in 20 minutes. The Publix lady said it was the easiest wedding cake she’s ever worked on.
I felt like I had beaten the system of going around to 20 different bakeries and walked out like a BOSS.
What have you half-assed in the wedding planning process?

I ordered mine from across the country, so I didn’t taste it or see anything. Turned out great! It’s hard to mess up cake and we aren’t really into food.

@lovecacti: How much did it cost?
I want to make my own cake, but I might order a sheet cake for quantity.

When choosing our liquor selections we just walked around the grocery store, making a list of items. We dont really like red wine so we chose the ones that were almost gone to go on the list and when asked if we had an alternative list if they cant source some we just told them to suprise us. I think they were a bit shocked and we were gone in 30 minutes.

Publix cake is soooo good!
We’re “eloping” to a resort, so they’re doing everything for me. So… I pretty much half-assed my entire wedding. Best decision I ever made.

Ha, awesome! I’m taking the same approach to our cake and want to order with Publix, too! If you don’t mind saying, I’m also curious how much it cost. And did you ask for anything specific in regard to the look/frosting? It’s not high on my list of priorities, but I do have a ‘vision’ and have no idea how much customization they can do!

Hahaha I love this!! We have done one tasting, FI and I were driving and I commented “Ok great lets go ahead with her” my FI said “really? I wanted to eat more cake”…I find a lot of places in my city charge for tastings and this lady didn’t and we were happy so I wanna go ahead!

We didn’t do a tasting for any of our food. I mean really, who’s got the time (and calories to spare) for all that? We ordered the menu and called it a day. To be fair, we had eaten food from all of our vendors, but not specifically what was offered on our day (our lunch menu wasn’t even finalized until 9 days before the wedding.) Whatever, it was fine!

@lovecacti: the dj…really didn’t want a dj, but we found someone who offered to do it for the same price as a new 60gb iPod and threw in some party lights for free. I mean…. A crappy dj is better than no dj? Lol

We’re getting ours from either Sams or Walmart.. so no cake tasting for us. I mean, it’s cake. I’ve had walmart cake before, tastes decent to me.
Same thing with our catering, but I’ve tried everything off their menu at one point or another and it has been fantastic.

Instead of tasting a bunch of wines, I bought a few bottles for Christmas dinner and had my family do the tasting. everyone liked it and I went back the next day and bought 5 cases.

@lovecacti: Ours has to be flowers. Really wasn’t that fussed as long as they’re in budget and ivory, so I Googled ivory flowers, found some I liked, got a quote, and booked. Nice and simple.
That’s about it though. I didn’t realise how fussy I would be lol. I guess I was kind of like ‘this party is costing tens of thousands, so it better be good!’

Aw man, we did our tasting yesterday and it was actually super fun. And we had leftover cupcakes for breakfast this morning. 🙂 I guess I did my dress like a BOSS. I had to go by myself. I went to David’s Bridal, tried on three dresses, then mentioned a dress I had liked for years online to the consultant. She went and got it for me. I tried it on and loved it, bought it, a veil, and a headpiece. And I was just getting over the flu when I did it. LOL. I don’t have any dress regret, either.

Probably my favours…. Decided to do jams cause I wanted something practical. I looked up the flavour list online and had my fiance pick one he thought sounded good. Called the factory and ordered 75 of my favorite flavour, 75 of what he liked. Ready the next day, picked them up and now they’re done. Took 10 minutes to decide what to give, what flavours and make a phone call. Doesn’t get much quicker and easier than that.

@lovecacti: LOVE it! My wedding shoes – I found them on Gilt, put them into Google Shopping and found them on Amazon for 75% off. Ordered them. 3 days later they came. Free shipping.
Boom. Like a BOSS.
