I have a little problem. I have picked at my skin since I was a pre-teen. I have the scars to prove it. I would have good skin if I didn’t have this awful habit.
Now that I am 25, I don’t really get zits anymore, unless my period is approaching. Small bumps form and I attack. I squeeze and poke and prod. I know it won’t make them look better. I know it will turn them into nasty, red scabs. But I do it anyway. I pick absent mindedly while I’m reading or watching tv or something, especially if I feel agitated.
Well, my skin looks revolting right now. I look like a meth addict. I am done. I am pledging to resist the urge to pick. Who’s on board?
Here’s a pic I took of my skin a few mins ago. There is a nasty red mark on the other side of my face too, but this is most of the damage I did a few days ago.

@bunnyharriet: Alright I’m with you, reluctantly. I don’t pick at my face, I pick at the skin around my nails, and it looks terrible. But I’m taking a trip to see extended family for the first time since getting engaged and I’d like to show them my ring without hiding my fingertips somehow so I’m on board.

Here’s my action plan to quit:
I am quitting cold turkey. If I get a zit, I’ll apply a spot treatment to dry it out, but I will not pick it!
I will not look in the mirror searching for tiny blemishes to squeeze. If I start to pick, I will stop immediately and start again, determined to stop picking.

@jennmariee: We can do it! Want to out yourself and post a pic of your fingertips? Posting a pic of my bad skin was not fun, but it makes me feel more determined to stop.
I’m telling SO to keep me in check. He sees me picking, but has never said anything because he’s too soft, lol. I’ll tell him to keep me in line. I really want to do this.

i’m so bad for this. In fact, I was just picking a spot on my nose 10 seconds ago and am currently poking at my chest (which has decided to be tempremental for some reason…vey weird)

I pick the skin on my thumbs 🙁 I’ve tried to quit many times, but I do it in my sleep!

I get periodic pimples and am a chronic picker When they come. I always say ill stop but I wont 🙁

I pick my cuticles the skin around my nails too. I’m getting married in jsut over 8 weeks so i REALLY need to stop this so it doesn’t show in the ring photos. I just bought some pure lanolin cream to rub into my cuticles and i’m trying to do that every time i notice myself picking so that they’re not dry and there’s nothing to pick at. Ugh it’s a horrible habit.

@bunnyharriet: skin picking is my worst habit. I’m obsessed. It wasn’t until recently that I started noticing pock marks from it, so now I really have to stop. I know what it’s like when you’d rather have a scab than a zit. Do you get marks afterwards? I used to get the purple spots after the scabs would heal, but now I use Murad Post Acne Spot Lightening Gel and it works really well to clear them up. It doesn’t get rid of the acne but it makes my skin look a lot better.

My parents used to yell at me for picking. Actually everyone would. Have you ever looked it up? It’s a whole thing. It felt better knowing it was a normal thing. I always would feel better after I’d do it, almost like a security thing. But I’ve since been able to stop. Not sure what really changed though.
I feel your pain!

Fiance scold me when I pick T_T I just can’t help it, it’s like a thing I do when I’m nervous or when I know there’s a big zit. Yargh!! Good luck quitting, I don’t know if I could do it!!

I really wish I could stop, but not even my wedding could stop me from doing it. Boo me.

I was literally picking at my face when I saw this thread. I, too, am a picker with scars to prove it. I also pick my cuticles and anywhere else on my body I can reach, and I’m with you on the pledge. I dont want to pick anymore, I don’t know if I can do it but I can try!

@bunnyharriet: I am 36 and I still get acne, maybe even worse than when I was a teen. I get it all, blackheads, whiteheads, those horrible, painful deep what are they? boils?…oh god I hate it! My mother had acne all the way until she hit menopause, so I assume that’s where I’m headed. I use ProActiv, it helps A LOT, A LOT, A LOT. The price kills me. But I need it so bad. Salicylic Acid actually makes my acne worse. So I can’t use most of the stuff that’s out there. I try not to pick. Some weeks are better than others. Though I usually only have one or two until PMS shows up and I get 10 over night. Pooey.
I don’t pick at scabs, ever. Ew. My daughter is compulsive about picking scabs. She’s driving herself so many scars. It’s driving me nuts.
