Hey bees, yup i'm a regular poster in hiding.

I really could do with some advice right now as i'm going out of my mind! FI and I started taking preconception vitamins last month in preparation for TTC after our wedding in 8 months. This month however, i'm 7 days late for my period.

Here's the thing, my cycles are always either 26/27/28 days and we didnt DTD until the 24th day of my cycle, and even then, only WITH protection. This means I ovulated a full 12 days BEFORE DTD (I've been monitoring my periods for 4 years on Femilia.com) I took a PT 5 days after my period was due and it was definitely a BFN. Is there any chance I could STILL be pregnant?

I called my OB/GYN to book an appointment but when the secretary asked what for, and I explained, she said it's normal to be late a week here and there, and to call back once i'm at least 10 days late, but i've never been late before in my life! Is this normal? The ONLY thing that's changed this past month is that we started taking the preconception vitamins. Could they have caused a change in my cycle?

I'm freaking out as I'm having visions of having to cancel our wedding.

Any advice / feedback would be GREATLY appreciated! Cry

I dont have much advice for you, except stress can cause your period to be late. Have you been overly stressed lately?

obviously, I am not a doctor.

But I highly doubt taking a prenatal vitamin can cause a huge change in your cycle.

What you are describing here, the only way I see you could possibly be pregnant is that you ovulated 12 days later than normal.   Given that you have always had regular periods, I think this is unlikely.

It is common to be late every so often because of stress or other outside factors. Not to mention when you did have sex you had sex with protection.

In my opinion, the likelyhood of you being pregnant is pretty low.

I've never heard of prenatal vitamins altering a cycle, but stress from things like work and wedding planning :) can alter your cycle. Since you're already a week late, if you are pregnant an OTC pregnancy test should let you know the answer. I would just take one - it will ease your mind either way. Good luck!

@beeincognito: if you are CERTAIN of when you ovulated, there's no way to get pregnant twelve days later with protected sex.

That being said, it's possible to ovulate later than normal (for some women, it DOES change month to month, so it's not out of the slim realm of possibility to ovulate at a different date).

I'd just do what the office said.  Take another test in a couple of days and if your cycle doesn't start, make an appointment.  It isn't odd for a woman to be late (it's been asked on here MANY times in the past, btw), so it could just be one of those "odd" months that women can and do get.

    :) good luck!!

Thanks so much you guys! I really appreciate the advice!

Stress was the first thing I thought of too, but in all honesty I thought THIS month I was less stressed than usual (having booked the venue, florist, DJ etc) which was why I ruled it out.

FI thinks i'm insane to be worrying as the PT was negative, we used protection AND didn't do anything at all during my fertile days, but it's just SO WEIRD for me to be late!

I'll wait until Wednesday (exactly 5 weeks since last period) and take the second PT. Here's hoping that one will be negative too.
