I hope this isn't a super dumb question...but can you wear a veil trimmed with lace if your dress has zero lace on it? I think my dress already has a lot going on (ruffles on the bottom) and a pearl belt with bow around the waist. I can't figure out what type of veil I should wear. When I bought my dress, the lady put on a fingertip (i think?) veil on me, but I always imagined a veil with lace. Do people wear dresses with no lace, with a lace trimmed veil? I'm uploading a picture of the one I like. The girl modeling it seems to not have any lace in her dress either, but not sure it matters when she's just modeling.

Thoughts? :)

I think it looks awesome in that picture! But, I do have to admit I'm completely clueless when it comes to veils...but I don't see why it wouldn't look great!

I think you can totally wear it with a dress with no lace. I like that look actually. My dress will be all lace (watters harmony) and I dont think I could get a lace veil cause it would be overload. But ya I think it could look really good with a no-lace dress! :)

Do you have a pic of your dress?

Well im a non traditionalist anyways so my motto on all wedding related things is .. it is your wedding do what you want and what makes you happy... I guess the best suggestion otherwise is go to to a bridal store with your gown and try some different veils on to see what looks best..... then go home and buy something similar on ebay to save money.... hehehe im evil i know

@ jillkodi - thanks for the response. I love watters harmony! i had already "decided" that was going to be my dress before I tried it on. I don't have the "goods" to fill it, lol. personally, my goal going in was to get a lace dress, but just couldn't find one that suited me.

You can see the veil they "tried" on me in the 2nd picture. but it just looks...so "not there" to me.

Hmm... looking at your dress... which i love by the way... with all the ruffles and layers it does have a bit going on but I do love the  lace veil but I do wonder if a simpler veil is not the way to go ... I agree that I dont like the one they tried on you but what about a 2 tier veil? They are a little fuller

If you can try on any in the store it might help you get an idea.  I thought my all lace veil would not go with my dress at all as it didn't have a bit of lace in it but I liked how they ended up going together.

I still say though... if you want a lace veil get a lace veil...

Could you perhaps find a veil that still has the lace detail you love but not so much of it? Perhaps the lace detail is skinnier...

The best way to know how you feel about it wth your dress is honestly to just try it on with it

yeah who knew there was so many different types of veils LOL 2 tier basically is just that is has 2 pieces of material layered overtop one another rather than just one....

thanks ladies.

@bvig: i would love to see your picture of your veil with non lace dress!

@futuremrs.harless: thinking the same thing. Maybe a skinnier lace would do the trick.  yeah, i want to try on... but my dress will take 4-6 months to get in! :( wedding is in 8 months or so, so hopefully i'll already have decided by then. trying to get a headstart on all of this :) I will def. check out the two tier. thanks for your help! =)

If your dress were plain like the original photo, I'd say go for it...

However, your wedding gown is so gorgeous (like jaw dropping!) I would go with a plain veil. You don't want to take away from or have conflict with your beautiful wedding dress! :)

I remember when you were brand new on the boards & just falling madly in love with your dress!

@ recessionistabride: aw, thank you! you are very sweet :) I do love the dress too, and will try it on with a plain and maybe a thin lace veil. I have a feeling plain will look better. Awhile back before I was engaged, I pointed out a dress I loved (that did not have lace) and FI goes (i'm not kidding, his exact words..) "Shouldn't a wedding dress have lace on it?" Later, he claimed it "wasn't a big deal." So, when I was looking for dresses, I kept ONLY looking at lace ones. None of them looked great on me. OH well! Hopefully he won't say that me at the alter on our wedding day. Sorry for the rant! :) I guess that may be why I want to have *some* lace but will do without if it looks better with the plain :)

@ellenphant: I am having the worst time finding a dress I love, love, love... I finally found some possibilities & I showed them to my FI (big mistake) he pretty much disliked every single one! Guys have such a weird view on how their bride should look! I think they base their views on movies & past weddings they've been too!  haha if it were up to my FI I'd probably have poofy sleeves & 20ft long train :)

hahaha! I had a very similar experience. A part of me is still nervous about the dress not having any lace but I know it won't matter either way when the day comes at all. I agree, I do think some guys (including mine) have a very old fashioned take on what a dress should look like! Keep looking (and don't ask his opinion anymore!) He'll think you look amazing either way... post pics when you find it! :)

I don't think you have to match a lace veil with a lace dress. However, your dress does have a lot going on and I think if you go for a lace veil, something with a thinner lace border would be better. Actually, that might help define the veil against the lines of the dress. Upshot: go try on some veils with your dress!
