- Wedding: August 2014
I’ve been lurking on the boards for a while but now I’m excited to say that it’s official!
I kind of knew it was happening, since because of my dad’s health we decided to expedite things a bit (we had gone to look at rings together before my dad was diagnosed with lung cancer) and wanted to get married this summer. I honestly would have been fine waiting, but he knew that it was really important for my father to be there at our wedding. So we had already been discussing venue availability together before being ‘officially’ engaged. He had the ring in his possession for about a month, but since he’s it’s busy season for his line of work, he has been working 80 hour weeks, 7 days a week and hadn’t had a chance to plan a proposal.
We’re in a LDR, and he asked me to meet him halfway between our cities in Nashville! I went to school there and loved it, but we had never been there together. On Saturday we went to breakfast at the Pancake Pantry (one of my college favorites), walked all around the Vandy campus, and the weather couldn’t have been more perfect. It was such a nice day out to walk around! Then we headed back downtown and watched some college basketball (his team won, thank goodness) and I knew we had a late dinner reservation at a nice restaurant. I figured if he was going to ask this weekend, it would be at dinner.
In the suite before we left for dinner, I was a bit tired from the day, a tiny bit cranky because I was hungry since it was on the later side, and wasn’t really in the mood to dress up. But I did, and right before we were going to head out, my boyfriend started to give me one of his pre-night out ‘pep talks’ (I love these because they always crack me up, he knows sometimes I need a little boost to get my energy up if I’m a little tired and he has a very vibrant personality)…. and the pep talk turned into a very sweet speech that led to him getting down on one knee and asking me to marry him!
Of course I said yes and it was such a lovely moment…
Then on the walk to dinner there was the barrage of phone calls and messages to family and close friends. Dinner was amazing but it could have been White Castle and I would have thought it was delicious. So it’s not a crazy fun or exciting proposal story, but it was sweet and I loved it. I don’t think I would have preferred a restaurant/more public engagement. It was perfect the way it happened- and I was actually surprised that I was surprised!
The ring… I love it and it’s more beautiful than anything I pictured in my head!
