@BakerBee16:  I hate seeing stuff like that too. It is so frustrating because we are in their habitat and taking over. The poor little animals just want to cross the road (that shouldn’t even be there) and live their peaceful little lives. It is truly heartbreaking.

Aw, that would have made me cry too. If I was ever the one to accidently hit an animal – be it a pet or a wild rabbit – I’d be in hysterics and have to pull over.

Omg that would kill me. I have so much compassion for animals and I just couldn’t handle seeing that.

Omg I would have started bawling too 🙁 seeing animals suffer is terrible. At least most humans understand and can voice their pain but animals just can’t. Gosh, someone needs to start a happy animals thread after all these sad ones!

🙁 aw no, I would have cried too. Poor thing. All you can do is phone animal services. If you approach it when it’s injured and scared it could really hurt you.

Sorry you had to start your day like that.

I take it you’re all vegetarians, then? Because if not you should really do some reading about what goes down in slaughterhouses.

OP’s story is sad, yes, and it’s always upsetting to see a frightened animal in pain. What’s far sadder is that we as a society deliberately and systematically inflict the same kind of terror and protracted suffering on millions of animals each day without batting an eye. We just keep them out of sight so we don’t have to think about it.

I know this post isn’t going to win me any popularity contests, but I cannot stand it when “animal lovers” get all weepy about a stray cat/roadkill/whatever while conveniently ignoring their own substantial contributions to animal suffering.

@mrssrm:  Ummm yea +10000

We do “care” about animals but we don’t care enough to actually do anything about their suffering.

That’s basically the end of the argument – some people might try to tip toe around it so they can sleep at night but that’s the jist of it.  We want to care a lot more than we do.  That’s just the way it goes.

@BakerBee16:  Good for you! The world needs more people like you.

Why the scare quotes around roadkill, though? Is there some sort of preferred term I should know about?
