- Wedding: September 2011
I just need to vent bees! So my wedding is fast approaching and my Future Mother-In-Law has been slacking on a few things throughout this whole process. For about two months I kept bugging her to give me her guest list because I had NO IDEA how many people she would invite, and it was going to affect our venue. We had a ball park idea but we weren’t sure. Then when she said she had the list to give us, it was just names and no addresses. That took another week or two. Mind you, I have a Labor Day wedding so I wanted to get stuff out well in advance.
So after I finally got the list it did not have all the names of the guests or the first names of the spouses – just Mr. and Mrs. Joe Smith (4). So I made up my RSVP cards to say how many seats we reserved for the guests, thinking this would avoid having some of the older, more distant relatives bring their whole families. I could have sworn we said at the time that there’d be no kids except me and FI’s first cousins.
Well, fast forward to August and we’re still waiting on about 10 invites to come back (our deadline was Aug. 6 and we need to do the headcount and seating chart THIS WEEKEND.) Well we finally got one RSVP back from my FMIL’s cousin and it said on the RSVP we reserved 2 seats in their honor, but she wrote her husband can’t come because he has to watch the kids – a way of telling us, I guess, that they’re pissed we didn’t invite the kids. I thought we weren’t going to, but felt bad and called Future Mother-In-Law and said we should invite them. She said she thought we did! Turns out, they did have the 4 headcount next to their name but I screwed it up! Future Mother-In-Law sounds upset, because she called her cousin and explained the mix up and cousin says the kids already have plans, but they were disspaointed and felt awkward and never said anything — even though she came to the shower a month ago. She sent her RSVP back like a week late, too. I feel so bad that we didnt invite the kids and I know there’s nothing I can do, but feel horrible. Has this happened to anyone else?
