awesome!!! keep it up, it does get alot easier! i've been shredding for 2 months now and its totally worth it. I def think adding cardio and good diet to the mix is essential though.
loves me some Jillian!!
I did add a cardio, but I probably won't do that very often. TWO MONTHS!?
Tell me what changes you've noticed! It seems like she focuses alot on arms- which is a good thing for wedding attire. But, I'm obviously on level one still.
I'm on it so I can relate! It really is tough for the first week, but like she says, you'll see a big change in your endurance after that.
I've been doing it since October, and my family members all commented on how skinny I was over the holidays. But I don't feel like I've made quite as much progess as I'd like because 1) I'm a perfectionist, 2) I've only been doing it 4 or 5 days a week instead of every day, and 3) I haven't changed my diet at all. I figure that doing the exercise every day over the holidays probably kept me from gaining my usual 3 pounds. It puts me in a much better position to really slimm down in the spring.
I started it on Sunday. Monday, I felt like I couldn't walk. Did it Monday night and Tuesday was horrible. Tonight was day 5 for me. It is finally getting better. Think I will rest tomorrow and Sat and start again on Sunday. I think 5 days/week is plenty. Her workout is a killer!!!
I just started today too!!! It kicked my ass!!! I'd love to hear about other people's results! I plan on doing it at least 5 days a week, but I dunno if I can do all 7 days of the week. I need a break at some point!
yeah.. i like to call it the "60 day shred". (But i def take days off!!) I did 28 days consecutive and then since then do it 4x a week. Once i got into level 2 thats when i started to see some results..which pushes you to keep going!!!
for me, i for sure notice the toning in my arms! Push ups work. Hands down. and i never used to do push ups on my own, so its all jillian on that one. Also the lunges really help my legs ( my #1 problem area!) although i feel like i don't see that dramatic results compared to my arms.
One thing i did at the very beginning, maybe u could try too, is that i did level one for 2 weeks.. i wanted to be able to get through easily before moving on to level 2. Then i did level 2 for 2 weeks, then moved to level 3. By the second week for each level it was easier for me to get through (and you could also move up to a heavier weight if its too easy for you). Just what i did though, whatever floats your boat.
Now i only do level 3. I want to pick up her other dvds to change up the routine! No matter what level you are on, some days are easier/ harder than other days but just get through it! And take it one day at a time!!!! Before you know you'll be on level 3!!!!

I also just started shred and agree that it was hell, and I only did level 1!
I first heard of it here on the boards and was excited to start. My first day was Monday night, I was crazy sore Tuesday, did it again Tuesday night, and haven't since :( I just can't seem to get motivated now that I actually have it. What keeps you guys motivated to keep doing it consistently? Do you do it in the mornings or at night?
That sounds like a good plan, Krissy. I really didn't imagine that it would be so hard, but I hope I can stick with it!
When I got 30 Day Shed last spring (?) I did the work out and was unable to walk right for a week. I've never gotten past one day of the work out as it HURTS! I want to though, as I hear amazing results can come of sticking to it, but I think I need to work up to being able to do her work outs.
Hope everyone just starting out sees results soon! :) good luck!
you'll do great!
trust me, it was super hard for me too! i could do 5 push ups in a row. that was it. done. i did half the reps of each excercise move for each level when i started. But each day just try to do a few more, and by week 2 of level 1, i was able to do the whole circuit, every excercise! Then did the same thing with level 2.
disclaimer: i'm def not a 30-day shred expert... just a fan / follower :)
omg you guys are scaring me!
@bdf- I am going to wake up a little bit more early in the am and do it before my shower. Luckily, 20 minutes earlier only means waking at like 8:45. I don't have to be at work til 11! Butt-- I can absolutely understand that it is had to fit it in after work, when all you feel like doing is going home and doing NOTHING!
we didn't think we were THAT out of shape, so FI & i were surprised to find ourselves panting and whining through level 1 of the shred.
those first few days, my exercise punches were aimed RIGHT at jillian michaels.
over two weeks later, we were yelling back at jillian.
"is that all you GOT jillian?" as we jumped higher, and higher during jump-ropes.
...it wasn't all she had. she had level two. but we'll get through that one too!
I just did the first day of Level 1! That is some tough stuff, considering I'm badly out of shape. But it's definitely do-able. It reminds me of an "easy" P90X. And shorter, too!
I did 6 days of level 1 last week and felt really confident. By day 4 I could already tell that things were getting easier, on on day 6 it felt too easy. On day 7 I decided to take a break and worked out on the Wii Fit. This Monday I tried level 2, it killed me. I got through it but my arms were sooo sore! I tried again on Tuesday and my arms physically couldn't take it. So much of level 2 puts you in a push up type position and my arms were shaking too much to hold me up. I'm one of those weird girls who has all upper and no lower body strength so this was new to me!
For the past three days I have been doing the Wii Active and I am loving it! It is slightly longer but I am actually feeling the results more than with Jillian. I'm hoping the Active will put me in better shape so I can go back to Jillian level 2 next week!!
It really does help knowing it gets easier and def. that you do see results! I am going to pick it up again and aim for 5x/week. I would love to do 7 but I know that itsn't realistic for me. I have the same problem with push ups now in level 1 and it's so discouraging that I can only do a few and they are girl push-ups!
@ nlmiele 11am- That's awesome!!! I wish I could do morning too but I can't make myself get up when I know that technically I can keep sleeping and still make it to work at 8am! And exactly, after work and school or work and homework all I wanna do is nothing- which is exactly what got me into such bad shape, exercise-wise, in the first place! haha
I am on day 6 of the shred, it is still tough at times so I think I might take your ladies advice and do each level for 2 weeks. I have been doing it everyday and I notice it gets a lil easier but haven't lost any pounds but my clothes are a little looser. I am trying to really stick to a diet as I am a big sweets lover, I let my self splurge a little bit tonight but it's back to the diet tomm. I notice that if I listen to my ipod it makes it a lil better bc listening to her talk isn't that motivating to me, good luck everyone, hope to continue talking about everyone's results :)
I didnt do the 30 day shred but one thing that will really help your motivation is take measurements of anything you want (i measured everything from my thighs to my neck...lol seriously) and tracked them every Friday and it is amazing how motivated you stay. They always say you start to lose inches before weight and its really hard for you, personally to see your own results but this way I knew something was actually happening and my work was paying off. It sounds a little lame and what not but it is a HUGE reason I was able to stay so motivated. Good luck bees!!!
I did it for a week before finals, but I took a 6 week hiatus because of finals and going home for the holidays. Classes start back up tomorrow, so I'm going to start my diet and exercise regiment then too (have to look good in a bikini for spring break in March!). I'm starting the couch to 5k in the morning for cardio and then I plan on doing the shred at the end of the day when I get home from class. I plan on running 3-4 times a week and doing the shred 5-6 times a week. I hope I can stay motivated!
my first day was hell too. It killed me for the following 3 days. I haven't been back since. I probably should try it again!
My 1st day was yesterday. I couldn't make it thru the entire 20 min. (in my defense, I had 2 back surgeries in 2008 and am still VERY protective of that area). DH decided to join in and didn't make it all the way either, which makes me feel a little better. ;) I did, however attempt and do at least 1/4 of each move. Today my legs hurt SO bad. Tonight I'm aiming for 1/2 of each move, but will be happy if I can do the same amount I did last night.
I started two weeks ago. The first week I did it three days. Second week not at all. I've been bad. But I am going to start it up again. I do feel it in my muscles when I do it.
We're doing P90x, it's X-trememly hard. We're on the shread part of my workout regime it kind of stinks because you don't realize how many carbs you eat and need to cut out for your first 30 days. It's similar to Jillians from what I hear, but power to you ladies! :o) AND KEEP ON MOVING :o)
I'd like to start the 30 day shred once I get this damn bronchitis dealt with. I can't even clear the snow off my car without going into coughing fits =(
Good job everyone! I started it on Saturday and was so so amazed by how sore 20 minutes made me! I was still sore today but just did it again. I can't wait till it gets easier! I do think the protein shake I get on Core 4 helps! (Core 4 being an amazing supplement weight loss program that I LOVE! :)
Owwwwie. Jillian hurts, but no pain, no gain, right (literally, the pain is tiny tears in your muscles, which heal into better shape, or said the instructor at the Y I went to two summers ago)? The last time I tried the Shred I noticed a change in strength super fast. The FI's scared of her, though. He said she looks like a scary baby-eater. :O
Yesterday was the first day on level two. Good news girls, I am in pain, but not nearly the amount of pain I was in the day after on level one. It does get easier. :) That is the only thing keeping me motivated, that I am seeing upper body strenght. As I finished level one, each day got a bit easier for me.
A baby eater, NICE! :)
My Fi tired the DVD, I think he did up to day two before he couldn't do it anymore.

It was HELL. I hope it gets easier. My calves are killing me. I never thought 20 minutes of exercise could be so hard. My friend that was doing it with me was like, "WANNA DO IT AGAIN?!"
hellll no I don't.
But, I'm gonna keep working on it! Anyone else still shredding?
