When do you take off your ring?
I'm curious about you ladies and if you remove your ring to wash your hands, apply lotion, cook, sleep, shower, etc.
I'm paranoid that if I take it off I will lose it but at the same time I don't want to get hand lotion gunked up in it, etc.
Put moisturizer on my hands. Or when I'm cleaning my rings. But that's it!
I take off my ring when I'm working with Fondant, bread dough. Other than that it's on my finger ALL the time.
I take off my ring when I put on lotion
And sometimes when I am cooking something like meatballs where I've gotta get my hands in it.
For showers, bedtime, swimming etc. I just leave it on. It is a bit looser since it's winter, but not so loose that it's ever come close to slipping off.
If you're worried about losing it, you could keep ring holders around the house in places you might take it off. I have one in the kitchen by the sink and one by my bed.

I take my ring off when:
I shower
I work with raw meat
I am kneading bread dough (or other dough)
I take my e-ring off and only wear my wedding band when I horseback ride.
I take my e ring off when I:
Shower/get ready
Sleep (it's a higher setting, and I'm afraid of banging it around)
Put lotion on
Cook/bake (especially raw meat or kneading fondant or dough)
Clean
Wash dishes
Hang out just around the house
wow... it seems like I don't wear it at all! I really only wear it when we go out.
I only take it off to clean it or if I am cooking something really messy. When I first got it I would have to take it off some nights because of the way I sleep it would poke me in the face, so I would keep it in the box by the bed. I am used to it know though.
When I shower, sleep, work with raw meat (rarely right now), and sometimes when I put on lotion
dishes (fear if it slipping off and going down the drain)
cleaning (ex-boss was cleaning and the ring started to look dull and color looked like it was rubbing off)
working with raw meat
that's pretty much it
I take my ring of when I:
am at work, cooking, cleaning, showering, putting on lotion, washing my hands (unless I'm in a public restroom), sleeping, swimming, or gardening.
I wear it when I am out of the house, and usually when I'm working out or running. I have a particular place that I put my ring when I'm not wearing it so it won't get lost or fall down the drain.
Sometimes when I'm putting lotion on (if I'm somewhere I know I can take it off and it wont get lost.)
When I go to bed.
When I am cleaning with chemicaly stuff.
Sometimes when I'm washing gunky dishes.
Usually if I'm doing something like working with dough (or meatballs, but I haven't done that since being engaged.)
When I go workout or run.
ETA: that's all engagement ring. I have never taken off my wedding ring.
Mainly when I'm putting lotion and other similar products on! Also if I'm painting for some reason. Otherwise.. it's always there.
when I go to bed, am cleaning, showering, just chilling at home. I have a safe spot that I always put it and I would rather keep it safe there then risk damaging it (or someone else) while I am just lying around the house!
I take my e-ring off when I:
If I do have to take it off, I put it on my charm holder necklace or in it's original box. Otherwise, it stays on my little finger!
when i put any kind of lotion/sanitizer on, cooking, showering, washing my face, and when i sleep
All that applies to the e-ring. I'm very mindful of keeping it in good condition and generally only wear it out socially/in work settings. But I always leave my wedding band on. I chose to get a plain gold band without stones for a very good reason!
I don't trust those ring hook things, too easy to knock them over...I prefer keeping my ring in its box, or tucking it in the coin pocket in jeans when I do the dishes.
Before I go to bed
or
put on lotion
or
use heavy cleaning products, especially when cleaning the shower tub...
When I shower - I was worried about losing it too, so I put a little ring box in the bathroom and put it in there while I'm showering.
I pretty much only wear it out of the house. Granted, now that I'm working 12 hour shifts 5-6 days a week, I feel like I'm always out of the house.
Putting on lotion
Cooking something messy
Weight lifting, climbing, playing sports (I'll usually keep it on if I'm just running though)
And I'll probably take it if off if I am ever doing yard work
Swimming in a pool or in a hot tub - unless I find out that chlorine won't harm it
@RunsWithBears: RE chlorine, I've heard mixed things. One friend takes hers off religiously when she swims, the other wears it all the time. I wear mine when I go to swim laps (only 45m to an hour, usually) but take it off when I'm in the water for longer (like when I teach swimming lessons). That's mostly because the chemicals seem to irritate my skin more where the ring is, for those long times. So far my ring is fine, and the jeweler didn't say anything at the last inspection.
@swanks4tw: OMG those are adorable, where can I find them to buy?? I love the swans and the dog. Must have ASAP. Perfect for the bedside table.
I ONLY take my rings off when I: am cooking and have to handle raw meat, washing dishes, or cleaning the rings.
Ring is off for:
I have it on for everything else. Not wearing the ring is less for the annoyance factor for me and more about protecting the ring from unneeded wear and tear.
After smacking my FI in the face one night, I don't wear it when sleeping. Take it off for working out, showering, and most cooking. I usually just take it off when I get home from work for the day.
I am afraid to lose it (especially around the house since I am very clumsy). I leave the ring holder next to the kitchen and I leave the ring there when I am at home. Then everytime I go out for work and go out in general I wear it. I kind of wear it like a watch. Take it off when I shower and cook :)
Lotion body, sleep, do dishes, gardening, weight training, or handeling anything that I feel might scratch it.
shower, go to the beach. Are you supposed to take your ring off when you sleep?
I take off my ring when I...
1) Sleep, and I put it back on after I shower in the AM
3) Wash dishes
4) Other chores
5) Exercise
However, I just got a necklace that I can clip my ring to really easily, so I "wear" my ring more often! :)
I am in clinicals (just wear my flat band since we are in ICUs, NICUs, and nurserys where I dont want to scratch anyone. Or when I am doing bakign with dough but pretty much wear it all the time otherwise.
of take it off when I clean, shower, wash my face, do dishes. I'm looking at getting a couple ring holders. For now I just put it in the box.
I take my ring off when i sleep somtimes, shower (always afraid it might go down the drain) and working with raw meat and sometimes doing dishes.
I take it off when I sleep, shower, wash dishes, work in the Chemistry Lab, when I'm out in the field (Geology Major), and when in my karate class. It was my Great Grandma's ring, so I am extremely careful with it! I typically put it on the necklace that my FI got me our first christmas together.
It feels so weird to not wear it, and we've only been engaged for a little over a month!
