- Wedding: April 2015
I just go engaged, and my mother suggested I use her wedding dress. The wedding ended in a rather nasty divorce, and on top of that, her dress is going to be much too big for me, and probably a good foot too short. However, she told me that I could do whatever I want with it, either sell it or completely hack it apart and change it to a new dress. I was thinking it might be fun to remake it. It currently has a princess neckline, with lace coming up over the neckline to the collar bone, long lace sleeves, ruffles along the back, and a four foot train. To be honest, I’ve never seen it before, so that is the best description I can give. I was thinking I would keep the neckline, take off the sleeves, keep the ruffles, but remove the train and shorten the dress to perhaps tea length. I would then send the lace of the train back to my mother, because she likes the lace, maybe using some of it in my bouquet or something.
What do you think? I have a year to do it, and if I ruin it I can always buy a dress. Would you feel bad abut cutting up your mother’s dress?
