So, a few months back, actually around April last year, one of my close friends got engaged and he proposed with her Grandmothers ring. Her Grandmother had passed away just recently and it wasnt her engagment ring, just her right hand ring that she wore everyday. They had the stone re-set in white gold in the same setting and it is absolutely beautiful.

I mentioned it to the BF about how nice it would be to have a ring that had been in the family and the significance of wearing it would be so lovely. Unfortunately my Nana (maternal) never had an engagement ring, just a plain gold wedding band. My Nana (paternal) is still alive and had a bad marraige to my Grandad and i never liked the guy she married after him, so that doesnt work. The BFs Grandma (paternal) died around 10 years ago and BFs Mum wears her engagement ring (im not sure why, i have never asked). That leaves BFs Nan (maternal) who is still alive, and is suspiciously no longer wearing her beautiful right hand ring! I have searched for a similar photo for it to show you what it is like.... It is white gold and diamond in the shape of a flower, mind you I havent seen it for a good 6 months now and i didnt think about it the first few times she wasnt wearing it because i thought she might have been having it cleaned etc.

I am pretty sure the BF is planning it for my engagement ring and i am OVER THE MOON!! it is absolutely beautiful!!

Although mind you, if its not, im sure he will have something pretty picked out (caveat!! ha ha)

How old does something need to be to be Vintage?

I should have added that i already wear my great-grandmothers engagement ring on my right hand - white gold and diamond, maybe 0.15 carat with these little prong things that come up the side, so pretty!

Aww that's exciting. And a beautiful ring. I love vintage rings, but being something close to the family makes it even more special.

    Wow - @danadelphia - that is beautiful!

What type of wedding band will you get to go with it? I am already thinking about that!! I was thinking a band with diamonds the same size as the outside ones? The more bling the better!! ha ha

    Thanks!

I have NO idea what type of band to go with it, but I was also considering a band with diamonds the same size as the outside ones. Although I'm also considering something really funky and unique, but I'm not sure what.
