My mom was given a hankie that turned into a baby bonnet when I was born 23 years ago. I wrapped my flowers with it for my wedding. Well, I was going through stuff last night and it's not on my flowers anymore (I don't remember taking it off) and I can't find the hankie OR the box. My mom is really disappointed (she made a big deal out of how special this was, be careful, it's for your baby, etc) and I'm really hoping it's buried in a box in my house. But I don't have THAT much stuff left. I did a big clean out last month and i'm afraid it may have gotten swept up with all the junk. I really hope I put it away for safe-keeping but I don't remember doing this! At all!

We're going to tear the house apart tonight looking for it; i hope a fresh pair of eyes helps. Anybody else lose something really important post-wedding that can't be replaced? This was really important for me to have and I know I've let mom down big time.

Sorry to hear ejs4y8. When I lose things for a while I always find them in places I never expected to find them. Good luck, I hope you find it!

*sigh* thanks. I'm so exhausted from looking and I simply cannot remember where I put it...it's so important to me and I kept telling mom to chill-how could I possibly lose THIS?! I haven't lost anything else! Go figure. DH thinks it may be in a closet for safe keeping. We'll see! We're tearing the house apart, that's for sure! Unless it got tossed out, it couldn't have just sauntered off!

oh gosh, Im sorry Ejs! thats such a bummer but I am sure since you dont think you took it off your flowers that it WILL turn up somewhere! you had a mess of boxes from the wedding so it has to be somewhere!

I did the same thing - I borrowed a family crest pin from hubbys mom and pinned it on my flowers and then I ended up using it later to pin up my busted bustle and then I dont remember what happend or where it went (its all a blur) but I remember the pin was replaced by safety pins - I dont know if the pin broke and then dissipered or if they took it off when they put safety pins on and someone gave it back to MIL

sooooo I am kind of avoiding the subject with her....and I hope she doesnt remember unless she does already have it...scary

oh no! I feel for you! These are random places that occured to me that you might want to look: pockets of your wedding dress (if it has pockets), glove box of your car that you were in after the reception on the way to the hotel, clutch or purse you carried on the night of your wedding, perhaps folded in with your gown?, pocket of a suitcase or going-away bag you took with you to the hotel.

those are just my ideas, i hope you find it! please keep me posted!

It's probably in a "safe place"... safe places are so dangerous! I never find things til after I need them when I put them there. Is there a shelf it could have gotten pushed back further into the closet? What about a box under a bed?

Well, we were in my parents car headed back to the hotel...sigh! I'm wanting to give myself the benefit of the doubt that I put it somewhere SAFE but totally out of sight!

Oh, no, Chantellamus! She probably would have mentioned it already. I mentioned it to my mom already and she said, "oh no" and told me things happen but I couldn't get over the sadness in her voice. She made SUUUCH a huge deal about giving it to me and teared up when she said I get to put it on my own baby and pass it onto my first bor after she's saved it ALL THESE YEARS. Oye.

AHH! I'm not even going to the gym today anymore. I'm rushing home to look for it!!! Just 4 more hours...oh i'm so obsessed when I lose things

I was secretly hoping mom had taken it off herself and taken the hankie back with her!

I just found out St Anthony is the St of lost items and travelers. But uh, I'm not Catholic. Thanks for the sentiment, though =]

ejs-- did you take a bag or purse with you to the hotel? did you check the side pockets of it? when was the last time you had your flowers? did you have your bouquet with you as you left the reception?

yes, i had a white overnight tote and a sparkly clutch

yes, checked them both. In fact, said clutch is empty on a shelf and I took the tote to the UK in July

Left the flowers in a box in mom's car, they ended up unloaded in my extra wedding room. I'd imagine that when I moved them, i would have noticed IMMEDIATELY that the hankie was missing....so it must must must be in the house. *crossed fingers*

    =(

Thanks for giving me places to look! I'm really anxious ot get off in 1.5 hours and go home and go LOOKING for it!

ok. when i was reading through this thread i kept picturing a tall-ish (4ft or so) light wood bureau (pine?). this bureau has two (maybe four) side by side drawers on the top. socks and underwear type things inside.

if you recognize this as being yours (or maybe a bridesmaid's?) dresser, look there in those top drawers and then pull the drawers out and look behind them.

good good luck to you. i hope you find it. if you don't, maybe you can find something similar to replace it. or better yet, break out the sewing machine and make one with your mom.

Oh my gosh, this is funny to me (not laughing at your loss, just the coincidence) because I lost the exact same thing! Except that mine got lost before the wedding. I kept it in my closet up until I went to college and I can picture exactly where it should have been. But when I sent my mom to retrieve it, it was gone! Maybe they are off galavanting somewhere together. I hope you find yours. I still have hope that mine will turn up too.

OH goodness, how do hankies just disappear?! Interestingly enough, I wasn't *allowed* to have this UNTIL my wedding. Sigh. Since my photographer didn't get a picture of it around my bouquet (grr), in hindsight it was definitely not worth having for risk of losing, which I have =(.

I'm going home RIGHT NOW to look for it! Everybody cross your fingers

Oh I feel your pain. All my life my memory has been absolutely horrible...like I really feel for Dori in Finding Nemo it's that bad. And I lose things all the time and it absolutely wears me out.

Maybe call your venues to see if they have it in their lost and found :/

I really hope you find it. :(

I FOUND IT JUST NOW! And, i never would have found it if I hadn't decided to make that Zebra Cake that somebody posted on my "i need food porn" post because it was UNDER the platter in my family room, which has been sitting on a table b/c i have nowhere to put it. WHY it is under a platter?! I have no idea why/how it got there, but I FOUND IT!

Sigh. All good again. That is definitely a place I NEVER would have looked on my own. THANKS EVERYONE!

Ooohhhh..... this post makes me super nervous!  I have several "important things" being used in my wedding next weekend and I'm so afraid they will get misplaced in the chaos of things.  The most important thing is a locket that every female member of my family has worn or incorporated into their bouquet for generations.  Besides the fact that it's a family heirloom, another family member is getting married October 3rd and needs it by then!  I hope my mom remembers to take it out of my bouquet before I take my bouquet with me when I leave for the honeymoon!!!

I recommend putting SOMEONE ELSE in charge of the "important heirlooms" and letting them ensure they're all in their appropriate places!

A locket, that's so sweet =]. I love family stuff. We don't have a lot of them as my grandmother on my dad's side came from nothing and my mom's mom is korean and had little when she came to america, so our family heirlooms essentially have begun with them!

    That was so stressful, whew!

I am now keeping it in my jewelry box....so if i forget, you can all remind me =]

We deduced that i put it under the platter so my cats wouldn't play with the ribbons on it. Sigh!
