I don’t know much about photography, but I really love how the second shooter gets shots that seem more candid.  There’s something personal about the photos on her blog.  I think I’m inclined to agree with you.  I really enjoyed looking at her photos!

@minipenguin:  you’re lucky to have two great shooters! but I agree, I prefer #2. These pics make me kind of sad that we nixed the idea of our wedding in Costa Rica. Most of my family is still there, and there’s no way we could have had a wedding there without inviting them (and I’m looking at a smaller, intimate wedding).

@minipenguin:  haha yes, i have sooo much family there. My mom was born there and came to New Jersey with her parents and siblings when she was pretty young. From the time I was 7 on, I usually spent at least 3 weeks a year visiting with my Costa Rican family. I LOVE it there. I haven’t been in about 5 years though! I hope to make it down there next year.

I have family everywhere, but mainly in San José, Palmares, Puntarenas, Limón, and Cartago. My FI has never been to Costa Rica, and in the 6 years that we’ve been dating, he’s only picked up about 5 words in Spanish lol. But he’s excited to come visit with me one day! Where do you live?

@minipenguin:  That’s a cool story about how you met! And yes, there’s a really large population up here. It’s pretty cool – because someone always knows someone who knows someone in Costa Rica. I don’t think I look tica at all – but Ticos ask me if I’m Tica and Colombianos ask me if I’m Colombiana – so I guess I look both! But then again, Gringos think I’m Greek lol. And that’s how my family is too! Only when we would go to visit do they do the typical tours and explore the country. But it’s the same for us here. I lived in NYC for a few years- but I never went to the Empire State Building or Statue of Liberty until I had to take my cousins around.

#1 has a better understanding of light, better white balance/processing (some of #2s shots the people have REALLY orange skin), look at the pics on an IPad or IPhone to see the most accurate colors you can without a calibrated monitor. I would just stick with your current combo. You’ll still get plenty of second shooter shots in your collection and they’ll be technically stronger selections.

They are both fantastic in different ways. The first is a better technical photographer but the second is more  sensitive and finds the little moments to shoot, which is a very emotional way to shoot a wedding. I like the style of the second (less posed, more candid) but I agree with PP the first is definitely better with light!

@minipenguin:  Happy to help! Nice to be able to tell a bride “you’re good!” once in a while instead of always having to tell people to lose their deposits, etc. 🙂

#1 is much better. Technically and composition wise.
