this is the lightinthebox dress (which is closer to what I wanted, as I love the cowl neck and the not so low back

Which one do you like more hive? :) My dress search officially begins in January, when I shall be trying on dresses, but Im the kind of person that my taste rarely changes- these are exactly what Im looking for and I love them both :) Im also planning on losing 50 pounds before my wedding day (30 already lost! yay) so the shape and style I know would suit me now and when Im 50 pounds lighter.

    Anyways, vote away!

I vote Allure. I love the beading and the style of dress in general.  dress #2 is too plain in my taste for a wedding dress. (sorry! not meaning to offend anyone that has this dress)

@MrsRuby: thank you for letting me know! they both have beading (and beading can always be added) I just love the shape of the light in the box one over the allure, I think its more...interesting? A little off beat? I dunno, thats how I see them competing in that way

Love the other perspective though! Thank you again!

Its hard to tell based on your venue, what kind of feel your going for etc.... Go with the dress you love!!!!!!!!!!!!! if you like the cowl neck one; get it!  sometimes simple is better ;)  both dresses are gorgeous regardless!

I also am not too crazy about dress #2 - while the shape is interesting, my instinct is that dress #2 is much more difficult to wear, and to style up.

If it helps, I chose both because I want a throw back glamor kind of feel to my wedding look

Im considering a fur shawl/petticoat and minimal but statement jewelry is what Im saying. Im also wearing my hair down, with this hair style

Sans the flower though, more like a vintage/40's hair comb to take its place.

@MrsRuby: well this is the inspiration board and the place if that helps too! good suggestions, lets see if that helps!

@pengoala: it is in the sense that it is somewhat fitted, but the neck is pretty flattering on most woman (I have a dress in this shape, and its one of my favorites!) but that said, I didnt think too hard about styling...I kinda thought the look I mentioned in my last post would work for both! Perhaps not?

    heres the venue

I think the Light in the Box one is classier and more elegant, and judging my some followup posts, not only the one you prefer, but the one that would fit with your theme better.

I voted Allure. My reason being that the fabric and cut and construction in the Allure dress is going to be exponentially higher quality that the one from light in the box. In this style of dress, the fabric and the way it hugs your body is going to be the main focus. You're going to want the higher quality materials.

You might want to take a look at Johanna Johnson and Yolan Cris. They both do 1920s/30s Art Deco wedding dresses.

    @Orion: thanks!

@zippylef: this is a very good point and a fair one at that! Something to think about. Are those pretty pricy designers or more around an economy range? Im just curious

also youd be surprised how hard it was for me to find dresses in this style! That were not in chiffon :)

@Bellanouva: Honestly, I don't know the price points. :( I was google searching and saw some of their dresses. There are some gorgeous Pninas in this style too, but obviously hers are very, very pricey. There is a bee that has a dress like that. I can't remember who is it but I remember it because I always think about how beautiful it is any time she posts a picture.

I would have voted the 2nd one, because I do like it more, but I don't trust a replica site for this type of dress.'

I was looking around and a lot of the ones I saw were chiffon too. :\ There was one Maggie that I saw that was really pretty. Let me see if I can find it again.

There are a bunch of Jenny Packham dresses too, but I think her price point is higher as well. Not sure how much they run, though.

@zippylef: Well JJ is actually pretty pricey (been searching into it too!) and I will take a look and maybe try on the other ones (the pictures!) you posted as well, because I have been looking into light int he box and I hear good and bad things about it. though I do admit, I just love how effortless the second dress seems. I just think it would be really hard to mess something so simple up as a replica, no? Or maybe because its so simple, thats why it would be so easy to see all the flaws. I guess it could go either way

Thank you for all your hard work zippylef! I appreciate it :D

@Bellanouva: Maybe try sending the picture to Milly or one of the other replica places that is known to do really good work and see if they'd be willing to make it in a nicer material? The one on light in the box is stretch satin and that could reeeally show any problem areas you might have.

@Bellanouva: It's Milly Bridal. It's a replica company. I've heard tons of really good things about them. http://www.millybridal.com/ The other name I've heard a lot is Jeff Liu. You could even e-mail light in the box and see if they'd be willing to change the fabric.

I was browsing through the Milly site and they have several pretty satin/silk sheath dresses too.

@Bellanouva: If you are looking for a replica gown or just someone to make the gown I would also check out Jasmine's Bridal Shop. They always seem to do amazing replicas. You should look for a Jenny Packham on preownedweddingdresses.com! They have like 15-20 that are around $1,000 :)

I have got bm dresses from litb and although I am happy with them I would be nervous ordering the second dress from them. That style of dress will really only work with weighty material and good quality pattern cutting and stitching because it is so slinky. If litb uses cheap fabric the whole thing could end up looking cheap. Having said that litb prices are often so low that you might be able to order that dress and get another one if you aren't happy with the quality. Good luck!

I would go with the Allure.  I ordered a dress from light in the box and did not like the quality.  I sold the dress on ebay.

I would vote for the first one just based on the expected quality.

Also, the cut would be easier to wear, close fitting satin looks great on the models but depending on your frame can either look like a long night gown if you're very thin or hug and bump in all the wrong places. It's just not a very forgiving fabric or silhouette.

I would definitely say you should go and try on several dresses that are in that silhouette before you set your heart on it. There are some beautiful vintage inspired gowns out there, classic styles that look really lux while being an easier to wear and rock cut.

@zippylef: I check them out actually! they do appear to have a few dresses that could definitely work. Im just worried I might run into the whole fabric problem again with them. Do these companies typically give out swatches?

@natbug21: this is true, I have been hunting around preowned for some time now, but the issue is finding the kind of dresses I like in the right price range/size!

    @Ladydazl: thanks for the perspective!

@nyebee68: really? Im sorry to hear that! I hear so many reviews inbetween really good and really bad that it kinda makes you want to take a chance. Maybe Millysbridal or Jasmine's bridal might be better companies though?

The Demetrios ones that Zippylef found are gorgeous - the two different cowl-neck type styles.  I love that neckline, though I'm not that crazy about the initial LiTB one.

@Bellanouva:  I'm a little late to the thread, but I really love the cowl neck dress you posted... but then I'm a cowl fan!  So classy and quietly sexy.  With that hair/ makeup inspiration pic... wowza!  Can't wait to see what your final look.

ETA  I tried on Demetrios DR154 (the last cowl neck zippylef posted).  It was gorgeous (just didn't fit me right).

@Bellanouva:  I think the problem with the LiTB one is that it's so simple, but with such a distinctive neckline I wouldn't know how to dress it up jewelry-wise (granted, I have very little sense of style).  Also, even in the model it is clinging and wrinkling - I feel like the simpler the dress, the more dependent it is on the quality of the fabric.  The Demetrios fabric, on the other hand, looks a lot smoother.  Maybe some of that is because details are breaking it up a little as well as it being a different fabric.

I LOVE the cowl necklines, though.  I think if you're looking for something classic and glam, that's a great thing to add.

@jjmomma: aww thank you! I shall try as much as I can on, its just surprisingly difficult to find dresses in this style/fabric. I really really would rather have satin than chiffon, which is probably the reason why! Chiffon is very popular as a fabric in these styles!

Yay! Im glad you like my styling, I hope it looks as good as I think it will ;)

@Entangled: Yeah, maybe I should pay just a bit more and have the quality make all the difference. I like cowl because I dont want to wear a necklace but rather distintive earrings and a hair piece...thats it! I want it to be very effortless. Thank you for your input!

@jjmomma: hmmmm maybe I shall have to look into trying that one then!

Random question, how often do dress shops let you take pictures of you in dresses? Im worried they dont let you do that until you purchase the dress. I really want to post pictures here when I go dress shopping :)

@Bellanouva: Ah! Sorry. I didn't realize you had responded to me again. I actually saw a dress the other day and I was like "Oooo. I need to find that thread and show her this one!" and... then preggo brain wouldn't let me remember what thread it was nor do I remember what the dress was. *facepalm* As for the fabric of the Milly's or Jeff Liu, I know Milly's does custom orders... so maybe e-mail them a picture and ask if they are able to make the dress is a silk or satin? They might do swatches. A dress like this in a thick, soft satin would be phenomenal because it would hug instead of clinging.
