I’m getting married in 32 days (!!!!!!) and I’m trying to get all my little details together. I thought I would get blue shoes for my something blue, but I ended up falling in love with a different pair of cream colored shoes with rhinestone details on the heel.
When my stepdad adopted me when I was 15 and I got this really ridiculous last name, he gave me a sapphire ring (it’s my birthstone). I was thinking I might wear it on my right hand as my something blue, to show that I’m carrying my last name and my old family with me, even though I’m married (which I am; it’s becoming my middle name).
Do you think wearing a colored stone on my right hand might take away from my e-ring and wedding band? And what are you using for your something blue?

32 days – yay!!!
I wore a sapphire ring on my right hand for my something blue too! ANd no way, it doesn’t take away from your e-rings AT ALL. 🙂

@Miss Fish: I think a colored ring would be gorgeous! I wore a pink and red bracelet and I didn’t think it took away from my rings at all.
Everyone was frustrated with me because my something blue was my wedding band which matched my engagement ring but with sapphires. Everyone said it didn’t count because I didn’t wear it all day but I also had a blue ribbon in my bustle so that was my other something blue.

I say go for it! Especially since it represents who you are. I’m going with the blue shoes since teal is our main wedding color.

@Miss Fish: I don’t think it would. I think it’s a great idea. YAY FOR 32 DAYS! 😉

Mines going to by an aquamarine ring on my right hand!

Aww thanks for the input, ladies! I took it out of my jewelry box and was wearing it earlier (I don’t normally wear right-hand rings) and I thought it looked really nice with my ring, actually! It’s a small oval blue sapphire with little diamond chips on the sides, and it doesn’t take away from my e-ring at all!
I really like the symbolism of my wedding rings for my new family/the future, and the sapphire ring for my past.
Mr. Fish is sick and sleepy, but he likes it too 🙂

I like the idea of the sapphire ring! I have a ring with blue in it that I normally wear on my right hand but I don’t think it will go with the bracelet I am wearing. So I think I am going to stick with the same blue object my sister used when she got married. My Ralph Lauren Blue perfume. It might be cheating, but I think of it as creativity.

I think that’s a great idea! I love sapphires! Plus, it will be special to you and your family 🙂
I’m planning to go a little overboard with my “something blue”. I’ll be wearing blue shoes and blue lingere.

I’m wearing a giant heirloom aquamarine on my right as my something blue. Go for it 🙂

@sarahjc0015: I’m also going with my aquamarine ring on my right hand. I got it from my mother on my 16th birthday. It’s not huge so it wont take away from my ring, but it’s a nice simple touch. It’s also my birth stone.

@Pinksapphire: I’m gonna thread-jack my own thread, but are you actually wearing your blue lingerie under your dress? And if so, what’s your dress like? I’ve been trying to figure this out (because I wanted to do the same thing) and it’s a logistic nightmare.
I’m loving the aquamarines, too! The first ring Fiance ever bought me was an aqua, but it kind of… got run over by a car. Don’t even ask how that was possible. Luckily he only paid like 25 bucks for the thing >.<

What an absolutely wonderful idea! It is a very fitting way to honor your stepdad and sapphire rings are gorgeous! I’m sure it will be really touching for him too.

Great idea – I’ve seen many brides do similar things! I am looking to *hopefully* get some sapphire jewelry as my something blue!

@KristenGotMarried: Me too! Except mine is my engagement ring. 🙂
