- Wedding: October 2011
My FI proposed to me a little over three months ago. It was unexpected and sweet and genuine and totally him. I cherish that moment and I smile every time I think about it. However, it was not a proper proposal. There were no flowers, no declarations of undying love (I’m being a little bit sarcastic here), no bent knees and no ring. Well, actually, no ring was a good thing for me – he somehow guessed that I wanted to choose my own.
It was Halloween (my absolute favourite holiday), we were talking and got to the subject of marriage, then the conversation went like this:
Him: Do you like what we are doing?
Me (confused): Yes.
Him: Do you want to continue doing it?
Me (even more confused): Yes.
Him: Will you marry me?
Me (!?!?): Ummm…. yes…
A month later, after being extremely frustrated with the search, I finally found my ring. We went to the jeweller to have it made and customized, then there were holidays, work and finally in the middle of January I saw the wax mould of it. I asked to change a couple of things, the jeweller said that it’d be ready in about four weeks and I asked them not to call me anymore, but to call the FI.
I then asked FI to surprise me with something nice and romantic when he gives me the ring (the man does not understand hints, I have to tell him exactly what I want). He actually thought it was a good idea and agreed to do that.
Last year, for our first Valentine’s Day together I went all out (http://www.imagelicious.com/blog/post/valentines-day-weekend). I wasn’t planning on doing something elaborate this year since it falls on the work day, but I started telling him that I’d make a nice dinner for him.
So, yesterday out of the blue he told me that he made reservations at a restaurant I really wanted to go to for this Valentine’s Day. It’s been about four weeks since I saw my wax mould and I told him that it would be romantic if he “properly proposed” on Valentine’s Day and we also try to save money with the wedding and buying a house. So, I think he’s planning to do something special next Monday 🙂
I did not have the heart to tell him that it’s the only day when I would actually rather stay home than go to a restaurant. But I am very excited 🙂 I hope to finally have my ring and a “proper” proposal 🙂
