Not at all! if your happy with the way you do your make up then do it just do some trial runs with different colors. : )
I never wear makeup, so if I did my own, I'd look like a clown! But maybe that's just me . . .
for me I am not blessed with a makeup talent. sure I can do foundation, lipstick, liner, etc but eyeshadow and highlightign and all that? NUH UH! I cant do it. so its much easier for someone to do it for me. plus ill be so nervous that day anyways!
for me, i never wear makeup and have no clue how to put it on without looking like a clown. if i had more experience putting makeup on myself, i probably wouldn't pay to have it done either. I can understand even regular makeup wearers having it professionally applied for reasons ranging from going for a different style of makeup than their usual look, not wanting to have to worry about applying it, worrying about "sweating it off" or some such and thus leaving it to the professionals. Or maybe they just want to feel like a superstar and be pampered on their big day. Everyone has their reasons for having professional makeup done, or choosing not to.
its not that weird at all if its something you are used to. For me, I love my every day mekup, but it isnt polished or heavy enough for a formal event, so I had it done (by one of my BMs who is a MUA and Broadway actress.) If you are happy with how you do your own makeup then defnitely stick with that!
@ runskiclimb - hhaha, i second the clown face if i try to do mine myself
I'm jealous that you can do your own. If I were good at it, I'd do it. I suck at makeup & no matter what I do, I always end up with mascara under my eyes. Both my MOH's were told me, "You're getting your makeup done! We'll pay for it if we have to, but you're doing it" Not that I needed any convincing. LOL
I say if you can do it yourself, more power to you! I'm not so great at doing "occasion" makeup & hair (I'm okay with everyday application), so I'll be having someone do them for me. :)
If you don't want to, then don't. Many brides like the fact that a professional makeup artist knows how to apply makeup that will last all day under the stresses of a wedding (tears, sweat, many hours without a touch-up), and that will look good when photographed. The makeup we wear every day isn't the kind that looks best in professional photos. To top it off, I'd go with a pro simply because I'm open to the fact that someone who makes it their career to beautify other people probably knows better than I do how to make me look more amazing than ever on my wedding day. Those are reasons enough for me and many other brides, but if you want to do your own makeup, by all means do your own makeup and save the money.
@runskiclimb- I'm right there with you. Don't weare makeup normally so someone else is going to have to do it for the big day!!
I can do my own makeup, too, but I don't have all those fancy tools or extra skin primers and stuff on hand! That's what really sold it for me...i just didn't have ALL the goods!
I am a makeup artist and I had my makeup done by someone else~! Well technically I brought my own products~ but yes, I needed that ME time or else I probably might've had some 'bridezilla moment'
Wedding day = probably the most stressful day of my life.(so far)
So if I have a choice to REDUCE my stress, I would~! For 2-3 hours, I just SIT THERE and not do anything, not answer phone calls, not DEAL with anything~ Even with a team of fabulous wedding coordinators, the day was just a huge WHIRLWIND that comes and goes. I am THANKFUL to have had that 2-3 hours to SIT and relax and take a breather before heading back into the WHIRLWIND.
I don't regret a thing! And would not have done so otherwise.
I wanted to use a makeup artist....but I just couldn't find someone to do my makeup better than I could so I did it myself and am SO glad I did!
Not weird at all! I'm just never happy with my own makeup, but obviously can't have a professional do it every day. Believe me, if I could, I would. So, the wedding day is the one day I can justify it! But hey, if you can rock your own makeup, save the money! That s**t is not cheap!
I never wear make up and I don't know how to put on one so I am hiring a make up artist to do it for me. But hey, if I knew what I was doing and I know that I'd look fabulous even if I did it on my own, why hire? :)
Two of my BM's who know how to put on make up will also do their own on my wedding day. They are just gonna go to the salon to have their hair done :)
I love doing my own makeup, and had originally planned to do it myself for my wedding day. I ended up deciding to have it professionally done because it always feels more "special" when someone else does my makeup.
Being pampered the morning-of is something I'm looking forward to, even though I'm not having anything dramatic done :)
Definitely not weird! I'm having my makeup done by my sister just because I'm a total makeup idiot!
I am going with the professional because I want a more polished look that my normal everyday makeup. Not to mention the professional will use more of the hih definition makeups giving the illusion of perfect skin that day....I know how stress can make my skin breakout in a few places and this way I know it wont be noticeable to everyone else
A makeup artist is preferable because you are looking for something very different than what you do every day: you want a look that works in real life and photos, and a look that will last all day. In addition to skills, makeup artists often have better quality products.
I don't like wearing a lot of makeup. I hate the way I look with eyeshadow, eyeliner, etc., etc--I don't feel like myself. I am ay-okay with the way my face looks on any given day, and all I ever do is cover up my undereye circles and put on some light blush, which I have been doing myself since I was 10. Also, I only use all-natural products and have looked around quite a bit to find the ones that work best with my skin tone and that last longest. So I am definitely doing my own makeup. I might wear some lipstick in addition to what I usually do, and I can do that myself just fine. I think I would find someone else pulling at my skin and touching my face all morning stressful and uncomfortable anyway! So no, I don't think there is anything wrong with doing your own makeup!
I honestly hate when anyone else does my makeup... even one of my bestfriends who is a trained makeup artist. I do on the other hand love learning tips from her :P
I loved not having to deal with it and wanted to be "pampered" on my wedding day! Plus the makeup artist had all the cool makeup that would make it last all day and look better in the photos.....
I've done my own makeup for every wedding I've been in .. I did my sister's makeup on her big day .. I absolutely hate getting my makeup done .. no one knows me the way I do .. and the thought of using someone else's brushes, powders, liners .. it just grosses me out .. ask that ur lady uses new makeup and clean brushes ..
I can't wait to have my makeup done on the wedding day. I certainly can't do it as well as a professional. As others mentioned, their products are better. And I won't leave if I don't like it-I'm not leaving until I love both my hair and makeup! This is why the hair/makeup trial is so important in my opinion!
You certainly don't have to have your makeup done. Some of us aren't the best at makeup other than the basics though and would prefer an expert opinion. I wish I were more skilled with makeup!
Definitely not weird, a lot of people do their own makeup, I am considering it myself.
Just remember, as a rule of thumb, that you should do it a little darker than usual if you want it to show up nicely in the photographs. It's typically recommended that you do it 15% darker, but most people can't really calculate 15% on their face (I know I couldn't), so I tell clients "noticably darker", or "just barely where you think it might be too dark."
Good luck!

I've done my makeup my entire life. I know what looks good on me. Why would I choose to get my makeup done by a stranger that day? Does this seem weird to anyone else? I can't do my own hair .. so I will go to a salon that day and have it done .. that doesn't bother me ..
