I just wanted to share our short search for a venue that ended up pretty successful! I’m so excited!
Well Fi’s parents really want us to have the wedding somewhere near where they live (Ormond Beach/Daytona area), which we didn’t have a problem with at all. Especially since they offered to host the rehearsal dinner and breakfast the day after at their home. It also makes lodging and traveling easier for us and others from out of town since quite a bit of his family lives near there. His parents went to two places last weeks to get information and pricing on two different venues and they sent us all the information that they got. Well, with me going back to school this week and my clinical starting next week, and Fiance going to the Virgin Islands next week for work, and our trip to Ohio in a couple weeks, we realized that we may be cutting it close if we plan to send out save the dates and such. Especially if we couldn’t find a place.
So we decided yesterday that once I got home from school, we would just drive up and we could at least see one of the two venues that his parents sent us info about. The events coordinator offered to stay late for us and everything. Through all the pictures we saw, and the website of the place, we both thought this venue would be “the one”. Well, we got there and it was nice, but it just didn’t feel right… I was definitely disappointed because I had such high hopes… So Fiance called work and told them he would be coming in a little late today because we were going to try to stop by the other venue right when they open, and pray someone was there to show us around.
We stopped by, and ended up having to wait for a little while for the wedding coordinator to show up, which was fine because we didn’t really give her a warning! Thankfully she was willing to sit with us and show us pictures of all different weddings they’ve had there, and she gave us a ton of information and advice. Then she gave us a tour of the bridal room along with the ballroom, the restaurant downstairs, and the dock. It’s was so beautiful, but I just wasn’t sure if I wanted to have the ceremony there… I was certain it was where I wanted the reception though. But after talking with the coordinator, she made some good points, and the photos from this place are gorgeous. Then she brought us through where the bride walks down for the ceremony to the dock, and I started crying!!!!!!! Who does that!!!! I am so in love with this place and we reserved the date right there!
Anyway, for anyone interested in seeing this place: http://www.sunsetharboryc.com/index.htm
And please feel free to share your stories of how you found the perfect venue (or dress, or flowers, or anything!!!!) I’d love to read your stories!

Congratulations! You sound happy with the venue. I checked out the website – it truly looks gorgeous! I could use some of that Florida weather right now up here in NY 🙂 My wedding will be 6-30-12 at Mountainview Manor, http://www.mvmanor.com , definitely a different style than your venue! I did not have as lucky of a find as you with finding my ideal venue. I actually fell in love with this venue a while ago but decided to look at things a little closer around home (within 30 minutes – my venue now is about an hour and 15 away). And I had been looking at venues for over 2 and a half months – I WAS JADED! But it’s funny how things work out sometimes, right? I just fell in love with it and knew as soon as I walked in that it was right! I was overcome with emotion as well – it’s a magical feeling when you just know it feels right!!
Have you been able to get your flowers and everything else down too? Everything will fall into place now! 🙂 So happy for you! What a relief, right?

@cmvmph: It’s actually been freezing here lately!!! Although this coming from someone who lives in Florida probably doesn’t mean much. I shiver at 65 degrees! It did get down in the 40’s when we were in Daytona though! Fiance and I live in South Florida, so when we got home to 70 degrees, it felt sooo nice!
Your venue is absolutely gorgeous! I wish there was stuff like that around here, but it’s hard to find in Florida. I really had my heart set on a beach wedding, but after going to the venue on the beach, I wasn’t as in love with it as I thought… And then you have to worry about weather, a back up plan, the tide, the seaweed, the elderly guests, jellyfish for crying out loud! Not to mention, every place we looked at was a public beach!!! Even more gross. I don’t want random people crashing my wedding! We did do an extensive online search of pretty much every Daytona hotel, but after a while you just need to see something in person, so that’s what we did! Daytona is roughly 3.5 hours from where we live :-/ but at least FI’s family is up there, so we were just planning to stay up there the weeks before and after the wedding. His parents also offered to host the rehearsal dinner and breakfast the next morning, which is so awesome of them!
I still havent decided if I’m going to do the flowers myself or try to find a florist… Everyone keeps telling me that I shouldn’t stress myself out with flowers, but we’re trying to keep it as low-cost as possible. And I’m not really a huge fan of the big crazy wedding flowers that most people do. I really just want something simple and rustic… Like simple ivory garden roses… My mom used to be a florist, so if I do decide to do them myself, I know she would be awesome at helping. Other than that, we’ve got nothing but ideas! There is a bridal show in Daytona this weekend, and even though it’s kind of tough to drive back up there again, I really want to. It’s up to Fiance though. I’m so excited that the biggest part is out of the way!

Firstly, I am very jealous of your weather! I would take that weather over my gorgeous venue anyday if I had to choose – I absolutely hate the cold weather and I plan on moving down south somewhere when I get my Ph.D in a couple years.
Secondly, I agree with you about what could go wrong with a beach wedding! Too many factors could make your day subpar and it’s not worth it (besides, much better to enjoy that for the honeymoon!) And I never thought of people crashing it- you know people would photobomb your pictures if it were on a public beach! The venue you picked is really awesome – I think you made a fantastic choice!
In regards to the flowers, I think if you have some help, you definitely should consider doing your own, especially if it is something simple and elegant. Can you buy your flowers wholesale through like Publix or something? Sometimes they have wedding flower departments at grocery stores or wholesale places like BJs/Sams Club and it’s so much cheaper than going through an actual florist.
I think going to a bridal show is a great idea! I never got to go to one myself (they were always when I had class) and I think it’s worth the drive! It will be really helpful for you to get ideas for your flowers and also start thinking about things (and have ideas for down the road). PM me if you ever want to chat more! I’ll share my email with you!
Have a great weekend! 🙂
