Gah, I'm in a similar situation! My mom told us she really wanted a Kindle for Christmas, so my sister and I teamed up to order her one. Then, I had dinner with my grandmother last week, and found out my grandmother had ordered her one too! So now we need to return the one we got. :(
Did apple annouce a version, or is he just hoping for one?

You know how weird apple is with annoucning stuff...
There are rumers that an apple version (basically just a giant iphone) is coming out in Febuary
Don't worry about selling it, the Nook is sold out and new units won't ship until after Christmas, so you should be able to resell it for the price you paid.
Good luck finding another gift for your fiance, he sounds difficult to shop for!
Don't buy a Nook. My FI ordered on in Oct, called to change the address in Nov (and then FIVE more times when we got the shipping email saying it was going to the old address). Found out they never changed it, it got shipped to the old place and STOLEN. and they haven't even apologized. they're offering to send us one, at the same cost, in February. Um..wait two months for something we ordered months ago for the same price? No thanks.

So I sneak-aly asked my FI about the gift I got him. And in so many words... he doesnt want it!!! I got him the NOOK from Barnes and Noble. And I guess he is too much of a snob to want it, he is hold out for Apple's Version. Any suggestions on what I should do? Or anyone want it? ;)
