For anyone that read the thread, I'm the one that posted about my husband applying for a job where he's going to have to move every year and a half to two years. So I guess we start our adventure in Minnesota and see where we go from there!
that's so exciting1 New adventure in a new state! brrr it's gonna be cold in the winter :) Better invest in some wool socks!
@ktisthatbees: I know! When we get settled in up there, I'm going to need advice from everyone on exactly what we need to buy for the winter.
Wow! Big move!!! Be prepared for a shock, my southern guy still hasn't gotten over the move ;) Congrats to your hubby!!! How exciting!
Thanks everyone! I'm sure it'll start to hit us more in a few days when we start to pack!
@RR: Thanks!
I'm still so excited about this so I'm going to bump this, especially for anyone who read the other thread about us getting this opportunity to move every couple of years, wanted an update, and hasn't seen this.
How exciting!?! Congratulations and I totally understand where you're coming from. My Fiance is getting ready to apply for jobs and we could end up anywhere in the U.S. I'm at a crossroads with my education as well. Anyways, good luck and make sure you're prepared for two things: the cold and snow/ice. Have fun!
@mandb122: Whoo Hoo! Cold weather here you come! My biggest cold weather gear suggestion: Cleats. They slip over your boots and grip the ice, thus preventing you from slipping. Have fun! What an adventure!

@An Alaskan Bride: I have something called yak trax that slip over my boots/sneakers that have metal springs.
Thanks for the suggestions so far! I know we have a LOT of adapting to do to the winters but hopefully we'll make it through just fine.
@beekiss: Good luck to your fiance and you with the job hunt/education decisions! I think I've made my education decision to get a certification to see if I like a field before a full on Masters. And generally we like snow and the cold but we've never been around that much snow so it'll be interesting.
@beekiss: I will most definitely enjoy the summers. Here it's 85 degrees or higher from May through November usually so I'm actually excited to not have that or at least for as long. I actually hate the heat and humidity here.
Hooray! Congratulations!
I'm from WI, so I would suggest lots of thick socks, long john's, and down filled jackets. The winters are much colder, but it's a different kind of cold there. It's a dry cold, not like the wet cold on the East Coast that soaks into your bones. The cold in the MidWest is one that will feel like it literally sucks every ounce of moisture out of your skin, so lots of chapstick, and moisturizer for your face and hands. And NO WET HAIR OUTSIDE! It'll ice up before you hit the car. If at all possible, keep your nose covered because the cold will whick all the moisture out of your nose fast and it's not a pleasant feeling either.
Good luck on your new adventures!
Thanks everyone for the congratulations and the great advice! I'll keep everyone updated on what we're doing and how we're handling the transition. We think we found a great rental house so we're trying to make sure it's in a good area and that it's available.
@mandb122: I have Five words for you: DOWN FILLED NORTH FACE PARKA!

He did the phone interview today and he got the job!!!!! We're moving all the way to Minnesota! I knew he'd get the job deep down but it just seems like it's now moving so quickly! He has to officially accept later when HR can call back later and give him the numbers for his daily allowance and moving bonus but pretty much he's going to take it. I'm just so happy right now!!!!!
