I know you are not supposed to expect gifts and its rude to assume that you will get a lot. Although I would never admit it to anyone in "real life" and when people ask me "what can we help with?" or "what do you really want from you registry?" I always say "oh you don't have to" and "having you at my wedding is more than enough" but the truth is I want tons and tons of gifts :D I want my amazing mixer, and my awesome coffee maker, and that luggage set that is way to much for us to get on our own, and CASH tons of cash so we can splurge on our already amazing honeymoon. Of course I want a lot of thoughtful cards that will make me cry too! hahaha I know I am a bad person but I just had to tell someone my deep dark thoughts of greediness.

We already had our own house before we got married so I didn't have any of that greedyness before my wedding.  Honestly, I have barely used my KitchenAid mixer!

lol, i am with mis AsB...we have been in our house for 4 years...we just want to celebrate with our friends and family.  however, since we already have everything we need, and since our house is too damn small to accomodate a bunch of new stuff anyway (not to mention i have a big thing about buying things second hand...it an environment thing, won't get into it here), we have decided to register for a honeymoon...or register for our photography services for the ceremony.   both of these things represent the best gift we could get...experiences, and memories!  however, no judgement, i get that you are excited about the new home and life you are building together!  you go girl!

You never know on the mixer-I got one from my mom for a birthday years ago (navy blue kitchen aid) and I use it a lot. And sometimes, I use the nice big bowl for popcorn. But they are great!

I use my mixer too!  You know, initially I was anti-registry, anti-gift, thinking that there is nothing we need except each other and the chance to celebrate with our friends and family.

But damn if I'm not loving every gift we receive as the wedding gets closer and closer.  I have no idea where we are going to put everything, but I love it all!  Yay presents!

Seriously, I am so with you. I would MUCH rather have gifts than cash, too! Because if I get gifts, I love them. If I get cash, I feel as if I should save it for practical uses such as savings, credit card payments, groceries, etc.

And I have a KitchenAid mixer! My fiancee bought it for my 23rd birthday. I use at a lot! It's super helpfu for bread, baked goods, mashed potatoes, dips and so on!

LOL, I am on the same boat as you Jenny! Although, the majority of our guests are pretty cheap (sorry to sound materialistic)... so I don't even expect shower gifts... the best I can hope for is that they at least cover their plates at the wedding, hehe.

I don't think you're greedy at all - I think we ALL secretly want pretty gifts with a nice red bow (and of course, all of the absolutely delightful thank you's we have to write for them!)  :) It's one of the biggest day of our lives where we get to celebrate US (FIs and ourselves) and the beginning of our new lives together. Not wrong at all as long as you don't go around screaming it from the rooftops that you want your KitchenAid Mixer.... YESTERDAY! (lol which I know you wouldn't).

You aren't a bad person. For me, at least, I see all these gifts as building a home with my FI (we won't be living together till after we're married) and that makes me so excited!

Honestly, I want NO gifts, I want money! :)

We already have a house full of "stuff". We are older and it seems silly to even register. We really could use the cash to pay off the wedding, so that is what I am hoping for.

I think in the future, when people ask you what you really want on your registery, instead of saying "we just wan tyou there" or whtever, maybe you could change it to "I love everything I registered for!". That way, you are not asking for something directly!

THIS is one of the many reasons I love Weddingbee.  Only here could we actually admit this!  I'm the same way.  Acting all nonchalant and easy going, but inside I'm thinking "Oh please oh please oh please get me the vaccuum"

Which, by the way, apparently my bro and wife are getting us!  WooOoooO!  you know you're "old" when you get excited about a vaccuum.

    But c'mon...a DYSON!

Honestly, I don't really care about gifts. We've been living together forever, and we have almost everything we need for our house.

I am greedy, though. I may not care about gifts, but I can't say that I'm not hoping for some shiny new CASH! Wink

I registered for a lot of stuff. My fiance and I already have a house, but it is filled with the same stuff we have had since college, 5 years ago! Most of our stuff is an upgrade. I figured I will end up buying the stuff for myself eventually, but I am not in too much of a hurry. (Except for my Calphalon pots and pans!)

My issue is that I want to buy myself some of the stuff now! I have to wait till the end of the summer to get it all. We also decided that any cash we get from the wedding will start a Roth IRA.

tee hee I'm so glad to find people not afraid to admit they want gifts. My fiance freaked out because our registry is big, but we both like to cook and since we're long distance (and I'm still with my parents LOL) we're not exactly bringing a lot to our first place! At this point I'm like 'gifts please' - I'd love to have something to eat off of instead the two plates I bought from Target, and a pan or two to cook in!!

lol I want gifts too! As someone else said, I know any cash we get has at least a 50% chance of being used for other things. I'd rather get all of my china and cookware, because if I get lots of money instead, we'll end up spending it on random stuff or putting it in a savings account.

I'm really excited to start receiving registry gifts too; not simply because it's SUPER FUN opening presents (you with me? haha) but also because my FI and I are fresh out of college, are enrolled in graduate school, have practically nothing of value and will, as it stands, be moving into an empty apartment with a half set of 1970's Korelware, a splintered set of mixing bowls and couch we rescued from the side of the road. We really, honestly, truly need a lot of the things on our registry (not all of it, I willingly admit) but I'm hoping our guests will help us...and I've been registry stalking and super excited ever since I sent out my Save the Dates. Laughing

If we receive the citrus zester on our C&B registery I will melt into a puddle of bridal bliss!

If we receive the hot air balloon ride on our honeymoon registery I will likely die of happiness.

Its ok... I want tons of gifts.  Recently my FI keeps on saying we should get....something.  I tell him that something is on our registry.  I seriously need to stop buying things that are on my registry... But I want that pizza stone sooooo bad.   Must refrain!

oh me too! I'm ashamed to admit it to anyone but I'm reallllly looking forward to most of our gifts...and yes I have been stalking our registry on an almost-daily basis Smile

@kpugsley: I keep justifying it to myself the same way--we just don't have enough stuff we really need! Being a poor college graduate does that to you. How I'd love a set of matching plates!

I was totally excited for the gifts.  Obviously thats not why we got married, but it was a nice "bonus" to get so many great gifts from our family and friends!  Stuff we wouldnt have been able to get otherwise, like our nice pots and pans, all our dishes and appliances, etc.

Yeah, I would never tell anyone I want gifts.  I always say, 'you don't have to.' But yup, deep down inside, I want gifts!

What do you all do when someone insists to give you money.  NWR.  Like when you pay for food, or transportation or anything else.  I do tell them 'no, and not worry about it.' But if they keep insisting, do I eventually take it. Is that bad?

Who doesn't like presents?  Registering was a ton of fun and getting new stuff is a great bonus indeed.  It's not about the gifts, but I'm still excited about them too.

I also really want my mixer.  And my Le Creuset. Laughing

    Me too!

yrret, I think it depends.  For one thing I think making it into a scene is bad manners so there comes a time when it's more polite to give in than to keep standing your ground.  For another it depends a bit on the other person's finances and how much we're talking about - if it's five bucks - there's no good reason not to take it if they insist, why make it a big deal?  If the other person can afford it - why not respect their wishes?  But if the other person is having a hard time I'd really really insist.

I"m excited about gifts but more so about cash since we are desparately trying to save for a down payment. WE wouldn't go blow it all on dumb stuff like clothes and eating out, we would put it in the bank in our 'down payment fund'. So I get ya!

This is such a funny awesome post!  I'm really excited about presents... especially off our honeymoon registry, but am also REALLY nervous about opening them in front of people.  I LOVE giving gifts, and really like getting them, but get more enjoyment out of watching ppl open them.  The thought of my hsower, with 60 guests, and everyone sitting there watching me open presents makes my stomach turn.  I'm not a big showy person... but want the gifts too lol

I'm with kpugsley and TrebleClef--we legit NEED almost everything going onto our wedding registry!  As poor college students for the past five and the next eight years, we have NOTHING a home needs and will not have any money to buy this stuff in the near future!  I hope we have some generous guests. :D
