    ribs!

So my cousin is having this uber formal wedding next summer & today she tells me one of the options they're serving is ribs! I squealed in delight but then I started thinking... um... is that really practical for a formal wedding? I just keep imagining her in her white gown covered in BBQ sauce lol.

So what do you think. Would you select ribs if it were an option at a wedding?

My cousin had BBQ at her wedding and had bibs made for herself and the bridal party which coordinated with our dresses.  It was really fun...and delicious!

$hit, son!  that would be fantastic!  I'd love it, as a guest.  As the bride not so much.  I couldn't hold food down, let alone food that stained my dress if I dropped it! haha

I love ribs, but I'm a total slob and would definitely end up slopping it all over myself. It would kill me to turn away from them, but I probably would if I were all fancypants.

Ribs are delicious and much more appetizing than most selections offered by wedding caterers. However, if the wedding truly is *that* formal, ribs seem a little too casual. That said, depending on how they are fixed, they aren't always incredibly messy. For example, the ribs from Famous Dave's are not messy at all in comparison to homemade ribs which are dripping in sauce. If she does go that route, make sure to have lots of napkins.

@ember: I said that to her! It takes it from formal ballroom to backyard bbq.

She said its her FIs fav food though...  I didn't want to pick at this too much because its her choice & I hate when people make comments towards a menu thats been planned & planned! I'm not going to be eating any ribs that night :)

even though I eat meat, racks of ribs gross me out, especially watching people slurp on them

@recessionista, that's fine that ribs are his favorite food and that they want to include elements of him into the wedding since it is his day too. But if they choose to serve ribs, then they need to knock down the formality to semi-formal which is what 95% of weddings are by default.

I wonder if most people will try to eat them with knives and forks, which seems more appropriate for a fancy setting, but not necessarily how I'd eat ribs...  And maybe the bride will get an apron.  I've seen some cute aprons to wear over your wedding dress and while I never considered one, if I was having ribs, I might have!

I LOVE ribs - don't get me wrong....but I make a mess of myself whenever I eat them. I wouldn't want to be wearing a cute cocktail dress at a wedding with a giant BBQ stain on it.

Ribs are great...at a tailgate, summer BBQ or a Super Bowl Party.  But honestly, I would NOT be happy if I got all dressed up and then had to worry about messing up my dress eating ribs at a wedding reception.

I would have to vote no... They're yummy yes, but not formal! My favorite food is spaghetti, so I had to count that out as well. Just because it's a favorite doesn't mean it needs to be there! lol Good on you for not mentioning it though. Mabye it's just one thing her FI REALLY really wanted.

Pah, let her eat RIBS! I would LOVE to do something crazy like that... so cute. I'm sure she's somewhat thought it through... I just wouldn't have the guts to do it, mostly cause I'm SO messy!

I love me some ribs!  As a bride, I would fear messing up my dress. As a guest, I wouldn't enjoy the ribs especially in a formal setting.  Being a slob is a must when eating ribs;  I don't think I could do it any other way.

Yeah that image just does not compute! She's all decked out munching on ribs. That food looks uh-mazing & would be yummy on a lazy summer afternoon, but just not practical for a white wedding!

Hmm....for that wedding in Texas at a cute little barn reception with homemade lemonade after a nice outdoor ceremony - perfect! (with some monogramed wetnaps of course! LOL, love that idea!)

But at a formal wedding reception - not so much.  Not unless they are boneless (and even then you might need some Shout Wipes!)  :)

I like the idea... but agree that it doesn't seem super formal. I know that nowadays "anything goes" but that seems a little too blurred for me.

Plus I'd be so worried about people with ribby hands geting near my dress!

Although I am sure they are a crowd pleaser, the thought of ribs at my wedding kind of frightens me...bigggg time! But then again, they are for the guests to eat, the bride doesn't have to partake! :) I'd be too scared!

I LOVE Ribs!  I don't think for the wedding....BUT, since our wedding is in KC we are having our rehearsal dinner at a local BBQ joint....I'M IN LOVE WITH THE CUSTOMIZED WETNAP idea, I wonder if someone would actually do that?!

Most people tell me not even to drink the red wine with my dinner because so many brides have ruined their dresses that way... I think I'd pass on the ribs. Tongue out

I can eat ribs perfectly with a knife and fork, but most cannot. (Hooray for strict table manners when growing up! Even included this... lol) I think it might be a lil too messy for most at a wedding.

I love ribs but I really don't think I could handle that with my dress unless I had a drop cloth!  And I don't know if a lot of people would like worrying about sauce all over their face and clothes at a wedding.
