I’ve started my make-up trail months ago and have had two trails so far, but I’m still not 100% happy. I’m not use to wearing make-up at all so I’m all ready nervious about wearing it. It just seems like alot of make-up. My make up artist explained to me that it has to be a little heavier because of pictures and that it will look good in pictures, but as my date gets closer I get more nervious about. My dress, hair and make-up are sooo important to me and I dont know what to do, especially since I already booked her for my big day. She is a nice person and has a nice personality but I’m torn. I want to look like me on my wedding day but better, not like someone else. The person I orginally wanted to do a trial with wasn’t there that day so I went with her, but I’ve seen him do other trials since then and I really want him to do it. But how can I when I already booked his co-worker? I’m so confused! I just want to look great for my big day. I’m doing two more trials maybe I will like it better, however the last two trials looked the same.

I agree that you do need more makeup than usual for the pictures. Are you allowed to transfer the deposit from one person to another? The person might be upset that you cancel with them but it is business, and you want the person that is best for you.

I would rebook with the other person, and pay for the portion of time you spent with the other makeup artist (but did you sign a contract? You might have to find out what you are legally allowed to do). If you feel badly about switching, just give the girl a thank you card and a gift card to help make up for her time and to show that you appreciate her.

@Almost Mrs. Marshall:
I got a little scared there reading your blog title catchy though ! I am the same way as you if a person treats me well even if they don’t do things the way I ask them I stay and pay. However, if after the 3rd trial or whatever trial number it is talk to the person doing the makeup and explain what you want . Having pictures maybe of a magazine of what you exactly want done will help the makeup artist. I say this because many of us are visual learners and what we see we can replicate. However if even after you have shown them a visial it continues. Let her know, however do not bad mouth the makeup artist you firing. Say pleasant comments about her such as “her style was unique and beautiful however I feel more beautiful being natural and more comfortable. even when bad remarks are made this will keep the environment lovely.

Yes, it will feel like a lot of makeup. How about you take some photos in your made up face, then see how you like THOSE photos? Becasue what feels like too much often translates to some really great “look like you” photography

@ejs4y8: I didn’t actually pay her anything or sign any contracts yet. She works for MAC and they do your make-up for free. I did take pictures of myself after both make-up trails. During the first trail I thought it looked heavy but she told me to take pics so I took some at the photobooth in the mall with my finace. I thought the pics came out nice (but then wasn’t so sure when I got home). I also took pics of the 2nd trial but wasn’t that crazy about it. I kept pics of both and I’m going to tell her what I like and dont like about both pics and see if we can get it right. I’m also nervous to jump ship because the guy I want to do it gets booked all the time and he may not even be available for my big day. So I have to make sure before I jump ship, and I have to have a make-up trail with him first, but I wouldn’t feel comfortable doing it while the girl I booked is around. I’m a strong believer in whatever is suppose to be will be, so if she is the one she will do it, if she is not the one then something will happen and I will get the person I’m supposed to have.

Can anyone in the Palm Springs, Palm Desert recommend a hair/makeup person?
Looking for someone through word of mouth that I can do a trial with and maybe hire for my wedding on 10-10-10.
