I am an avid golfer, personally, I would want to pick out my own clubs. It took me hours of trying out different clubs to find the best ones for my swing style then I had to have them cut down for my height. I would get him a gift certificate to pick out his own. January is the best time to buy clubs anyways, I got mine more than half off plus they threw in a bag plus lots of extras.

@AlmostMrsShield:  it an OK starter set. My only question is the length of the shaft. It is not listed and you’ll want to make sure they’re long enough. There are tons of shaft length guides on Google to let you know how long he’ll need the shaft to be per his height.

@AlmostMrsShield:  Oh no! Lol, can you maybe talk to a friend of his to get help in your search? I mean he doesn’t golf alone right?

@AlmostMrsShield:  Do you have a Golf Town or similar golf store?  You can get him in there to test a few sets out.  Plus the salespeople can help with finding the right lengths.  They usually have really good sales mid winter.

I bought a beginner set for myself a couple years ago (figuring I’d upgrade from the mix matched set DH gave me).  One thing I would suggest is maybe try and get a decent brand name, nothing crazy expensive, but something that might retain its value more if he ever decides to upgrade in the future.  I think a better name brand would be easier to sell.  Or maybe he’d keep them as spares or give them away.  Just a thought.

@AlmostMrsShield:  If you live in one of the capital cities, there is sure to be a golf shop. I think you might also be able to buy clubs at a golf club.

Does he have someone he plays with, who you could ask?

Could you turn the gift into an outing for him to pick out his own? Alternately going with a reputable brand from a store with a good return/ exchange policy would be a good route to go. He can always swap them if they don’t work out.
