I posted a question about how other brides are saving money and having considerably larger weddings than mine for $5000.00 or less and while I am getting a ton of really great feedback and helpful advice, I would like to hear more from Canadians because I am seriously thinking that the USA pricing is a lot different than here.
I have altered my budget and saved a bunch of money based on their advice but the thing is that we have a wedding in mind and don’t want to compromise on what we actually want we just want to do it for less if we can. I am wondering if my budget seems on track for Canada.
Can some of you share your guest numbers and cost breakdowns? I am specifically interested in the cost of your gown, DIY flowers, maids dresses, accessories, photographer etc.
If you are finding great deals, where are you getting them?

I posted on your other thread regarding licenses but I have a few other tips as well.
Flowers – you still have a lot of time before your wedding. Do you shop at a PC store? Loblaws/ Great Canadian superstore etc.? Do you have a PC Mastercard? 2 years before our wedding we started using our PC Mastercard for all purchases (paying it off monthly) and saving our PC points. By the time of our wedding we had $1200 worth of points. We used these points for our flowers through their florist. They were absolutely FABULOUS and all for FREE. I got my calla lilly wedding ($1100 worth of flowers) for FREE. We also bought the food for our BBQ rehearsal dinner with the left over points!!!! I know that you have less time but PC has some great products you can save up points to help pay for flowers, or decor (candles etc.)
Accessories – borrow and DIY. I didn’t know I was so crafty until I planned a wedding 🙂 Plain veils were ridiculously expensive and so I made my own for $15. I made my own hair flower for $10. And I borrowed jewelry from friends and also wore some of my own that I already had.
Make-up – Sephora has free lessons where they will do half of your face and teach you while you do the other half. So you could learn to do your own wedding make-up! Or if you don’t want to do your own, at both Mac and Sephora, if you buy a $50 gift card they will do a make-up application for free – so you aren’t REALLY paying for the application and $50 isn’t too bad.
Hair- I used my normal hair salon for my wedding hair. They charged me $55 for my wedding day hair and did my trial for free!!! So definitely shop around for this one and talk to your normal hairdresser who you trust.
Photographer – check out craigslist and kijiji! There are many young photographers out there that will do weddings for cheap (or even nothing) to build their portfolio. I actually know someone around London doing this right now – so PM me if you are close to London and are interested.
There are many things you can do it just takes a lot of research and the will to do things for yourself.

Sobey’s floral departments will offer you a KILLER deal…we’re talking full bridal party floral service for under $400.
I also recommend you look and look for a great photographer. We found ours on Kijiji and she is FANTASTIC.
@FMM:WOW. You’re really lucky with your hair. I have yet to find places that offer free trials and most places charge $90 for bridal updo’s. I did find one place that was $65, but it was a little shady. My usual salon charges $90 for JUNIOR STYLIST. Our area is quite expensive, so I’ve just come to accept these higher price.
