This is more a vent than anything...

But after having pictures and color swatches for like 5 months, just today he tells me that they can't do the scroll design on my cake!

    Now what?

Ugh. Sorry to hear it. If you were closer, I'd outsource my frustration and volunteer to ring his neck for you.  Win for me, win for you, not so much for baker, but screw him. :)

it's so annoying!  Even more so since it's a package through our reception site.

Can the coordinator at the reception site get you a different baker, and hear your complaints?

I don't want to see the coordinator force this guy to do it, because if he can't do this scroll and tries it, he's going to screw it up I'd almost bet.

What kind of scroll, out of curiosity? Do you have a picture?

I've forwarded the email he sent me to her and said "deal" or "tell me how to deal".  I'm in Seattle.  It's not like I'm going to hop on a plane to FL to talk to him face to face.  And his email was like 2 sentences long.  Didn't offer anything other than "we can use A purple (not dark purple) on your cake as a color.

It's going to look bad either way.  I'm thinking that it may just be as bad as Mrs. Purfumes cake??  :)

Similar to these two but in an eggplant color.  It's the scroll work from our invites.

I didn't need it to "waterfall" down the sides.  I knew that was a pain.

I hope it doesn't turn out too badly.  If it does you can always put it up on CakeWrecks so other people can share in your misery Wink

Hmm.... if he says he can't do it, I'd be inclined to listen to him lest you wind up on cake wrecks. Unless the cake design is majorly important to you, have him make the icing a pretty color and leave it. Nobody will remember you cake unless it's spectacularly awesome or awful and I'm afraid if he says he can't do the scrollwork, you insist... you'll wind up in spectacularly awful.

I guess I'm fine with not having the scrolls.  I just wish he said something 5 months ago when I sent him all the pictures and swatches, that way I could find something else.

    He's not overly helpful.

you should definitely not let him do it, it he says he can't....it could be horrendous!!

at least he knows his capabilities, but he should have told u loooong ago i agree!!

maybe he can do the plain bands around the bottom of each layer like in the first pic, and then u can add some pretty fresh flowers (or fake)....that's what i'm doing, since i'm too afraid to end up with a 'cake wreck' lol which is a high possibility where i'm from
