This is a terrifying visual. I obviously understand that it needs to get large to get the baby out, but when comparing it to my favorite bakery item, it freaks me out!

What really blows my mind is that I got my son out of a bagel sized opening... he was a pretty big 10 lb baby.. I need to give myself more mommy credit sometimes. lol

Oh cripes.  The cracker was bad enough and the pop can is downright scary nevermind that bagel. :S

I couldn't make it to 'soda can' without re-thinking my visions of natural birth for our future children. Dear Lord. I mean, I think I was much more comfortable with the theoretical 8-10cm...now I can guarantee I will think of Coke cans and bagels while in labor. LOL.

Holy sliced banana. I've had a kid but that actually made me go WOW.

When I had someone peering up between my legs saying 'Oh you're so many centimeteres dialated' it honestly scares me as to what they saw. O.o

I am clenching my jaw right now because I just realized how big that is. And then I pictured my vagina being a large gaping bagel sized hole. Omg AHHHHHHhhhh

I am so gonna have fun with my husband at breakfast tomorrow...definitely serving him bagels and then sharing this graphic.  Teasing him is the only way I'm not terrified of the thought of the bagel sized hole.

    WWOOWW.

I had to click on the thread just to see what you were going to say...because I LOVE BAGELS. That is seriously a terrifying thought, 100%. When I think about the act of child birth it's *ALMOST* enough to make me sew up my vagina because I don't understand how a baby comes out of there....lol!! -__-

I thought this would be like "because bagel makers are such hard workers, they're great!"

Good heavens. I can't look at a bagel. It will be months before I eat one. Oh dear. Oh no. Not even the inside of a bagel. Like the whole damn bagel. AAAHHHHHHHHHh

I have to say, that comparison is far less disturbing than the delivery I watched at work last night ... the kid had a 40cm (16 inch) head circumference, and I guarantee you that that womans bits stretched far far wider than the 10cm dialation ...

I'm glad that other intelligent woman, who could obviously figure out what 10cm was, were also shocked by the bagel comparison.

@NDBee:  I can guarantee that if I ever have kids, when I go into labor I will be thinking of soda cans and bagels.  I will also probably think for a minute about whether they could fit a bagel in me if they tried and then probably scream at my husband (by that point in time) that he did this to me and I will rip him a bagel and then he'll get really scared that I've gone crazy.

you know whats SUPER unfair about all this?

They used a picture of my favourite kind of bagel. Why couldn't they have used, like, a poppyseed bagel or something? noooooo, they just HAD to use cinnamon raisin. SO UNFAIR.

    *pout*

They handed out a book last week at my childbirth class -- 10 pages with holes in them ranging from 1 to 10 cm in diameter.  Yep, the 10-cm page was about the size of a bagel.  I'm crying right now.

When I saw the title I KNEW what this was about hahahaha. I saw it on pinterest tonight. So....not okay. ughhhh.

I learned the other day that hormones and serotonin rush in after childbirth to make the mother forget the pain and want to do it all over again.... keeps the population going.

I've had two kids, and even I didn't need that visual.

@sherryberry:   I have heard that  too but I still remember the pain of both my labours.  I was so freaked out about going back a second time, because I knew what to expect.  There is no way I would forget those contractions coming over the top of each other, and the ring of fire.  Youch.

@cacamillis:  I went to a 4 day birthing class at the hospital, where they took you on a tour of the birthing suites and did talks on caring for the baby and what to expect during labour.  They showed multiple videos of women giving birth in baths, at home, in this position, in that position.  There were 12 couples (although I wasn't there in a couple, I was on my own) and only 3 returned from lunch.....I wish I had not been one of them.....

Oh. My. God. I had absolutely no idea what this thread was going to be about and now I don't know whether to laugh or cry! As someone said, a hypothetical 10 cm doesn't sound too bad but seeing that bagel...yup, that makes me clench my legs together in terror and tell this baby it better find another way out because I'm just not sure the whole bagel thing is going to work for me. Ouch!!!!

    @Firie:

    Oh Dear!

I reckon there's a value in being blissful ignorant!

I do have a friend who is on her third and she absolutely will not have any pain relief,

the fact she's doing it for the 3rd time and so calm about the whole process is what Im concentrating on!!

At least when you tell women with kids you're pregnant you get a massive "WOW!" & "congratulations!" rather than a sharp instake of breath between your teeth- haha

    Surprised

I avoided opening this post since I saw it on my lunch break earlier today... and I sincerely regret letting curiousity win the battle just now and opening it.

Tempted to show FI... but I think it might scar him for life.
