Ok ladies, I really hate posting a thread asking for an opinion on something as simple as a name but I am home alone and your all I got for an opinion right now.
I CANNOT figure out what we are going to call this child! I'm debating back and forth, banging my head against the wall wondering "Is this name too short? Will she be made fun of for it? Is it too popular? Is it not popular enough? What will my family think?"
My husband and I love the name Hannah. I know, I know I read the thread about names that we are over and Hannah was mentioned quite a few times. That is what is keeping me from naming her Hannah at this point.
Heres our options: Hannah Grace
Laynie Grace
or go with,
Laynie Hannah or Hannah Laynie.
What do you think? Should I skip both names?? I like Laynie because I feel it isnt too popular. But for some reason I can't bring myself to put it above Hannah.
HELP!
Well, first of all...I think the fact that you keep coming back to Hannah is indicative of something. :-)
And besides that...I personally really love the name Hannah. Maybe it's because of the Hannah's I've known in my life, but it brings to mind a very sweet, soft person. (Very good things in my mind).
And I think the name Hannah Grace has a really nice sound to it. Very sweet. :-) So that's my vote.
I think if the name Hannah is the one you really love, then name your baby Hannah. Yes, it's a popular name, but it's not nearly as popular as it used to be...so the chances are low that she will be one of three Hannah's in her kindergarten class (for the record, there are NO Hannah's in my son's kindergarten class).
I know that no one likes to feel that "their" name is overused...but if that is the one name you both love most, then I'd not worry about what other people are doing and use it.
Sour Toes von Awesome Pants. That'll be $50!
okay but seriously. I've only known one Hannah and she was wonderful so I like the name and don't think it's trendy. I like Hannah Grace or Hannah Laynie (but not so much Laynie Hannah - it doesn't have as nice of a flow)
Stick with Hannah if you keep coming back to it. I don't really care for Hannah with Laynie though.
I agree with the others. It sounds like you already know that you want to use Hannah. I think Hannah Grace sounds very nice.
My vote is Hannah Grace - you love the name and that's all that matters.
Just because strangers on the internet are "over" the name doesn't mean you shouldn't name your child the name you love.
A lot of people were "over" different spellings; however, I love different spellings and will likely spell a name differently when I have a child. Other peoples opinions won't affect me and you shouldn't let them affect you either!
Hannah Grace is a beautiful name.
Hannah was totally going to be our pick if it was a girl, so I love the name too :)
I looked it up (before we knew the sex) and Hannah was the 17th most popular baby name in 2009. The boy name we liked (Noah) was 2nd, which has gotten us to take that off the list, but I decided I could live with ~17th most popular.
If you love it, go for it. You're going to be saying it over and over again for the rest of your life, so might as well pick your favorite! I also think that "Hannah Grace" is a lovely combination.
Aw thank you! I do love Hannah Grace alot! But did you know that Hannah actually means Grace?? That was kinda throwing me off too... Thank God I have until March to figure this all out!
Also, if you're not going to use "Sour Toes von Awesome Pants", mind if I do?
@Lozza: That is a pretty sweet name isn't it???
@elliestan: I just might have to go with your name...but I'll have pay you on friday. Thats payday =)
Well if we were having a daughter, she'd be named Hannah Grace. Hannah is such a sweet name and Grace is DH's grandmother's name. But... we're having a boy.
I think people get caught up too much with meanings and initials and such. If it sounds nice when you say it, and isn't obviously going to lead to teasing or sound awkward (like initials being "SEX" or something crazy like that, then just go for it. Kids will always find something to tease each other about, if it's not their name then it'll be their hair color or glasses or freckles or their shoes.
@elliestan:hahaaha! that just killed me.
@missflipflops-I think if you love hannah then use it!
I LOVE Hannah Grace. Maybe it's because all the Hannah's I have ever known have been the sweetest things but I say go for it if YOU love it. And tell strangers on the internet who wanna give you crap for it to piss off :)
My fav of what you posted is Laynie Grace, but if you really love Hannah I'd go with Hannah Grace. Hanna Laynie, when said out loud, sounds to me like cool surf move or something... lol
I like Hannah Grace. But I like more traditional names so Laynie is automatically out (I think it could work if it was a nickname version of Elaine). Even if a name is popular I feel like more traditional names sound nicer for longer.
I'm a big fan of long names that can be shortened so it gives the child some options as they grow up - for example, my full name is Christiana but when I was little my parents just called me Christy because I wanted to be like all the other kids - but now as an adult I go by my full name, because I like the formality of it.
i have a college friend who named her little girl Laynie Grace. My best friend's sister is due in Feb. and naming her baby Hannah Grace. IMO, I'd go with Laynie Grace - if you are only picking between those two names. What about Landry for the first name. I love that name and it's so original. I could go on and on about names that I think are cute, though. Go with what YOU love :)
hannah grace is a beautiful name! you keep going back to it for a reason - i think you found your name :)
I like Laynie Grace. But like others have said, you seem to really love Hannah. I think you should go with a name you love and not worry about other people thinking it's overused.
i love @camrie:'s suggestion of using Elaine. You could name her Hannah Elaine and call her Hannah or Laynie.
I love the name Hannah. I don't really care too much for Laynie.
Hannah Grace sounds perfect to me. They are both classic names that won't date and will "fit" a child into adulthood very well in my opinion.
I was going to say that Hannah is a classic, but it looks like everyone has it covered. You've got to go with what you love. Think how many Elizabeths there are (and will continue to be). It's because it's a beautiful and classic name :)
I think Hannah is a lovely name! It's also one that she can grow into and it won't sound ridiculous when she is 50.
I love the name Hannah. It's not as popular as it once was, and it's not trendy, it's classic - to me, there's a distinct difference there. Go with your gut!
I say stick with Hannah. It's a classic name and one that you love!
Laynie to me does not sound like a full name. I am not a fan of calling a child Katie instead of Katherine etc. Laynie sounds like a nickname for something else.
I really like Hannah in and of itself, but even moreso compared to Laynie. Laynie is cute, but it's more fitting for a little girl I think, and as an adult, a grown woman might feel a little silly introducing herself as "Laynie." I imagine most girls who go by cute nicknames when they're younger (Katie, Maddie, etc) prefer to go by their full name when they get older. Hannah suits both a young girl and a grown woman though, in my opinion.
Congrats on your little girl! Hannah Grace is a beautiful name! I know a Hannah and she is simply delightful!
Name her Hannalie (same rhythm as "Emelie" or "Emily") Lynnee (like "Renee") or something and just call her "Hannah." That way you can call your baby Hannah but her name isn't the same as everyone else. My husband and I like Bellatrix for that reason. He likes "Bella" as a name but I say no way, Jose, am I going to name my daughter after "Twilight" so we decided Bellatrix is a good compromise, because he can call her "Bella" and I can call her "Bellatrix" or even "Trixie". :)
Congrats on your little girl! Hannah Grace is a beautiful name! I know a Hannah and she is simply delightful!
I totally agree with @ohheavenlyday. Hannah's a great name for a little girl, a teenager, an adult, and a grandmother. Plus, you could nickname her Pal since Hannah is a palindrome.
Hannah Grace has such a soft, sophisticated ring to it. Laynie...just something about the spelling of it seems forced to me. Definitely doesn't have the ease of the other two names. I think it's the extra "y" that's bugging me.
I also vote Hannah.
I don't love Laynie (dislike names that end in ee sound), but I get you with avoiding common names. FI and I only agreed on ONE girl's name: Sofia Katerina. And then I found out Sophia is like number 4 at this point!
Hannah Lynne sounds nice together.
