Ugh…I went onto our registry to maybe add some things I had thought of – and I totally saw what has been bought already!
I wish I hadn’t done that! Now I know what we’re getting. I feel like I just ruined Christmas morning for myself. 🙁

I check my registry CONSTANTLY! I like seeing what’s been purchased. You still don’t know who bought it, and when something comes in the mail, it’ll still be excitin because you won’t know exactly what’s in it. My dad reprimanded me for checking our registry because it ruins the surprise, and I was like “but we picked everything out ourselves so there’s already no surprise.”

lol you didnt ruin it. its great that you got some of the things you picked. could be worse, you could be pissed off that no one got you anything yet

I don’t think it’s a big deal. You picked out what you wanted, so you kind of knew what you’d be getting anyway. Don’t feel bad.

I check my registry too, I get excited when I see something new that’s been purchased.

Wouldn’t you know what you’re getting already since you registered for it? Not sure what site you’re using, but the registry shouldn’t tell you WHO bought it for you, just what you want. Unless you’re registry has hundreds of items you should have a pretty clear idea of what you’re getting since you picked it.
We kept our registry pretty limited and when there was only 4 or 5 things left we added more that way we made sure we got the things we wanted most. They will surely be some guests who bring gifts not on your registry, but for the most part that should be your main source.

I think it’s important to check the registry regularly and stores encourage you to do so. Otherwise, you won’t know what is out of stock/clearanced out (which has happened to us for several items already and no, they were not obviously seasonal items) and if your guests seem more inclined towards a specific price point, you need to compensate for that (e.g. all your guests bought the $50 or less items and now all you have are big ticket $300 items).
In addition, there really isn’t an element of surprise like Christmas morning (unless you are the type that gives everyone a specific list of what you want) because you knowingly picked out these items and assuming people only buy from the registries, then you are expecting to receive said items.
At least you don’t know who has bought what, unless you peek at the Thank You Manager?

I had checked my registry previously, but when I received gifts they were still surprising! I think it was just fun getting exactly what you want, like a 5 year old at Christmas! (I always had a Christmas list my parents followed)

I constantly checked mine too and it was still fun opening them up. It’s still a surprise because you don’t know who bought what.

No I don’t know who bought the stuff, and of course I know what we registered for – I don’t know, I still feel like I ruined the surprise for myself of actually getting the items.
How do I act surprised opening a vaccuum now when I know we’re getting it?

Awww I’m sorry. I love surprises and I did monitor my registry to make sure enough was on there…so at my shower I wasn’t super surprised about anything except the gifts bought elsewhere. But it still made me feel better knowing that I had enough gifts in the right price ranges for people to buy.
I feel like there’s no good way around this – either you aren’t surprised or you run the risk of your guests not having enough or enough range of items to buy.

@kate02121: I’m glad someone else loves surprises and understands. 🙂
I guess it’s true what everyone is saying that I should monitor it for functional purposes to keep track of it for guests.
It’s not the end of the world. I’m just double checking it now, and then not going back on!

Dude, i’d be checking my registry everyday lol 🙂 It’s exciting to see things being bought!

@Sunshine09: haha my husband kept checking it, I was like stop!!! but he didnt and I couldnt help but ask. Its still a surprise, you wont know whats in each box, and I forgot about the registry once i started opeing gifts b/c it was so exciting!!!

@Sunshine09: I completely get it! I had to make sure my registry was updated after my shower and I kept putting it off because I don’t want to know what I’m getting… I saw a few items that have been purchased and I hate that!
(For the records, I was the kind of kid that never went hunting for brithday/Christmas presents – and even if I knew where they were hidden, I NEVER peeked!)
