if it’s any sort of consolation I’m 5 foot 4 and even with heels I’m going to need a hem. I got an estimate from the seamstress today of $150 just for the hem! YIKES!

I’m 5’11. I’m getting a short dress to show off my legs!

I don’t know if this is very helpful, depending on what kind of style you’re going for… I’m 5’11” and was hating dress shopping because of my height.  I ended up buying a La Sposa dress, and the sample was actually too long on me!  The girl at the bridal store told me that line is designed for people in the 5’10″ish height.  I’m planning to wear low-ish heels, so now I’m worried about having to get it hemmed when it finally arrives!  Good luck!!

Why not have someone make you a wedding gown since you know seamstresses and have a limited budget?

I know you’re probably looking for a more formal gown, but I got my dress from The Limited’s new weddings collection (online only) and it’s very long on me – I’m 5’11”.

Some designers do the hollow to hem which is pretty much the length custom like some Demetrios dresses. And some do the dress totally custom fit like Simone Carvalli. I don’t know your budget…these dresses are all over $1,000 but the length would be custom…you just have to pick your shoes or at least the heel height before you can order.

@MacFaniam24: *raises hand*

My mom is about 5’10” and somehow my brothers are both tall and I’m a shrimp.  🙁  She wears heels and stands straight and walks into every room like “yeah, I’m the tallest bitch in here, I own you, bow down” and it’s one of the few things I really like about her.

@cyndistar3: really? I’m just under 5’8″ and will have to take several inches off my dress. Stinko for you! Try on some Blue by Enzoani dresses, I swear they make them for giants.

I hear you! I am 5’8 and my dress length was perfect barefoot. But, I cannot walk in heels so it was fine with me. I wore ballet flats and was comfortable all day 🙂

Could you do a small heel?

I am also 5 ft 8. I bought an Alfred Angelo and it’s perfect for the low heels (1.5 in) that I’m wearing. I didn’t have to have it hemmed or pay for extra length 🙂

I am 6 feet, and when trying on dresses at David’s Bridal, the dresses were almost long enough…have you tried there?  I also have a friend who is the same height, and she didn’t need to add length to her dress…I can try and find out the designer.
