So reading through the boards, I see that it’s kinda split between bees liking/disliking Men’s Wearhouse for their guy’s attire for their wedding.
I figured I’d start this so that you guys could ask me anything pertaining to pricing, tuxedos (including what is included in rentals, and the terms that go aong with it), purchasing vs renting, and so on.
What I’m not looking for is any slack on working for them or how “evil” they are. I know that there are awesome people there, and not so awesome people- but I like to think that I’m one of the awesome ones and that’s why I’m doing this 🙂

I’d like to know why the men can’t try on any suits before purchasing/renting.
Apparently, that’s a pretty common practice around the formal places here but I don’t get why. I wanted him to try on different cuts/vests/ties/colors to see what would look good but they all wanted him to buy first.

@harleyq: honestly- I get that question 10x a day, and it’s a totally valid question. I wish we could play dress up with the groom and whoever else is there! The reason why we don’t have every tux to try on is that we would need an entire other store for every tux style and size, not to mention every vest color/style/size and all the accessories that go with it. When we measure the guys for a tux, we at least try to find something in retail that will fit very similiar to the fit of the tuxedo you are looking at.
There is a little known fact that you can actually set up a “groom try on”, but one of the managers has to set that up… what that will do is ship in a style (or two, if i remember correctly, I saw a groom try on two different vests?) to help you decide if you like it.
Also- we do not keep any of the tux stuff in our actual stores. We might have some shoes and shirts in backstock just incase something doesn’t fit right when ou come to pick it up. Everything is at a “hub” where it gets assembled.

Why wont the Mens Warehouse in Santa Monica leave me the f*ck alone?! Seriously, I live an hour away and there are 5 closer mens warehouses to me.

How about a ridiculously cheap tux? The cheapest nice one I was told was like 170 is that true?

Why do hardly any stores carry vests?
Vests are extremely popular for weddings but we had to go to tons of stores before finding gray vests. And the MW we finally found them in….we walked in asked the guy if they had gray vests, he said No and as we were leaving we saw a rack of them….
I just find it crazy that they don’t stock more nice vests to be worn by themselves since they’re all the rage for weddings.

I have a question. My BMs are wearing the two birds dress in skate which is like brown and gary at the same time. What color tux/suit should the groom and groomsmen wear to match. I was thinking straight black would be best but what do you think? Have you had a lot of brides rent who have similar Bridesmaid or Best Man colors?

Is the guy on the MW commercial the Dos Equis Most interesting man in the world?
ETA: fi wanted to know. 🙂

@MsNarwhal: I don’t know why they keep bothering you… File a complaint with the company. I don’t call/bother people unless I have to call them to come pick up a tux.
@Mrs.Larson11: As far as cheap tuxes go, the cheapest is 59.99 which is a joseph & feiss jacket, pleated pants, cumberbund, bowtie (in black, red, white or ivory) choice of shirt (4 choices to choose from) suspenders, and studs and cufflinks. Shoes are an extra 20.00. It also doesn’t include a vest or a long tie. Also- there is a 7 dollar insurance fee (covers buttons falling off seams ripping, spills, dry cleaning and shipping) so it comes out to 66.99. The nicest one we have is the Vera Wang (black and grey) which with EVERYTHING included is 226.98. Also, if you sign up for the perfect fit card you can get $30 off our tux rental- or find a 40 dollar coupon in a magazine, or from DB 🙂 I typically rent out CK’s, and those run 156.98 with the PF discount (including everything but his underpants)
@kala_way: Vests are pretty uncommon for people to purchase them just by themselves. If they want that look, their best bet is to find a 3 piece suit in that color. In speaking from what I know what I have in my store- I don’t think we even have grey vests, unless it’s with a suit 🙁 You can also rent just a vest for 25.00 (plus the 7 dollar fee) and then you have the choice of all the colors and patterns.
@RobotBabooshka: I think you’re fine with a black tux. If you wanted to do a grey vest, you could go with the dark geometrics grey. Also, if you have any other colors in your wedding- those would certainly go too, since the slate is a neutral color. My advice is that you have your groom stand out (typically, he matches you) and you have your guys wear something to coordinate with the BMs.
@imalittlebirdie: LOL. they Do look alike, don’t they? Unfortunatly, it’s not the same guy haha (although- that would make our holiday parties even more fun since our guy shows up to them)

@mwbee123: But the rental vests are those crappy shiny ones with the false backs. Yea, no thanks

@mwbee123: Why do you only have one color ivory shirt and why is it so yellow?! *bleh!

Thanks so much for offering to do this! My Fiance and I went to MW a few weeks ago and it was a pretty good experience, even though we felt a little pressured. We’re still going with them, though.
I’m wondering about this coupon that we got. It’s for $30 off each tux rental. How is that supposed to work? Does my Fiance have to go in with each of the guys when they get measured in order for it to apply? We got tuxes that were around $150, so with the coupon it should be around $120. But the guys who have gone in so far have all been charged $150. How is this coupon supposed to work?
I know it’s not your fault, but I feel like the company is jerking people around a bit by making them think they’re getting a deal but then making it so complicated! Even the receipt is really hard to read.
Any insight on the coupon thing? Thanks!

Okay, all I want for the groom and the GMs are grey 3-piece suits (or tuxes, I guess), plain white button downs, and black skinny ties (although the groom’s tie will be different). I can always just buy the ties online, which I’m okay with, but how much are these going to cost per? We haven’t decided on shoes yet, but I don’t want them wearing the patent black ones (but if there’s a matte option, I would be for that). I’m not even sold on the vests just yet, because I would definitely want them to match the fabric of the suit/tux itself, which I haven’t seen yet.
Also, why is everything pleated? Pleated pants are gross and unflattering. 🙁

How far in advance do we need to make our rental bookings? I’ve been trying to drag my Mr to pick out a tux for months now and I’m thinking maybe a hard deadline will get him to move a little faster.
