So… you were gossping about her? I work with a pile of bitchy/ gossipy people too. As a rule, never discuss a person that’s not in the room.

You said,

I wasn’t saying it to attack or insult her. I just said it passing through the area because it smelled strongly of salmon. It’s not as if I was in his office whispering, “Oh my gosh, I can’t believe Rose would think to ever bring food like that to work! She has no consideration for others! She is a terrible human being!”

….which is probably what she thinks happened.

True enough…

But I have to agree with YUNO1: the BEST advice when it comes to your work life is just don’t say anything at all.  NEVER use a person’s name ever.

Worklife isn’t like the other parts of your life… I’ve found that you really have to learn to compartmentalize it… treat it differently… because otherwise EVERYTHING that says / goes on, can come back to bite you in the butt !!

Generally speaking… NO ONE at the office is your friend… they are your Colleagues.  Period.

EDIT TO ADD – I see in the time that I was Drafting my reply above, you’ve replied again.

I hate that. even saying “I’m surprised “name” didn’t know about this”, got my coworker saying “are you complaining about “name” ?!”.

I could have slapped him. I really wanted to.

I agree with YUNO1

lol. No I don’t think you intended to insult her at all. 90% of the time it’s unintended. People get offended at anything and everything though, and we all know it got twisted by what’s-his’name into something it wasn’t. That’s not the point though. Don’t give him fuel to use against you, becuase people out there just like to stir the pot. Also as another rule, anyone that is willing to gossip with you, is going to gossip about you.

My DH works with the WORST snitch/gossiper ever. They call her the bus driver because she will run over anyone she can with her gathered information regardless of her relationship with these people. It got to the point where anything I would post on Facebook (topic didn’t matter) she would go to my DH while he was working and try to ween additional information from him. Seriously!?!? I finally de-friended her because I got sick of her trying to be up in my business so to speak.

The worst is when my DH bought my e-ring. He used connections through a co-worker to get into the San Francisco Jewel Mart and because of those connections the guy was there when the ring was purchased…meaning he  knew how much my DH spent. That guy told the co-worker, who told “the bus driver” who proceeded to tell the ENTIRE OFFICE how much my e-ring cost. Completely inappropriate!
