Can you get married officially at city hall but have a friend perform the ceremony at a later date?

I agree with Edina! Could you just have a civil wedding and then have a friend basically “perform” at the wedding? I totally understand where you are coming from. We had a friend perform our ceremony and it was so much more meaningful than having a total stranger do it. We were lucky enough that it was allowed where we live.

Yes, I forgot to add that we had a friend perform our ceremony as well. It was so personal and wonderful that she would do that for us. I hope you can find a way to make it work!

I think a lot of people who want a friend to marry them and can’t make it work do that.  We lucked out in that one of my close friends is a military chaplain – so I agree that it’s meaningful to have somene close do you do it.
