I would NEVER do that for MY wedding…

I never thought Id be “given away” by my dad. Has absolutely nothing to do with my dad- I adore him and we have an amazing relationship.

For some reason whenever I pictured my wedding I always pictured myself walking myself down and whenever I thought of the term “being given away” it made me cringe. Especially when I became old enough to know where that term originated.

But of course not wanting to be offensive to my dear old dad, hes walking me down. 🙂 I think we agreed to front of the aisle… and I go the rest of the way by myself or FI meeting me 1/2 way and then walking down together.

Children in the bridal party! I always thought it’s just asking for trouble but… fi has three nieces and my sister has a step daughter all aged 7-10 and I’ve got really close to them all. I just can’t imagine not having them as bridesmaids now. I’m still having my best friend as MOH to help me and make sure I don’t freak (she’s also a primary school teacher!  Bonus)

Have wine waiter served 🙁 I saw it as limiting consumption but it’s not; I literally have run out of table room! lol (cash bars are big here and the norm, but we provide wine with meals)

LeopardPrintBee:  I always end up drunk with wine waiter served…..the dam glass never empties so you have no idea how much you are drinking…..until its too late. I love it when someone else tops up!

HonoraryNerd:  When I was younger I thought I would never get married in Church as I’m not particularly religious, I thought it would be hypocritical and wrong to get married there just for the pretty building. But I did get married in Church, the same one I was Christened in, by the Reverend who Christened my brother! I’m still not particularly religious but anywhere but a Church didn’t feel right, a Church wedding just seems more weighty and serious to me, so I guess I must put more faith in my Church than I realised!

I always thought I would get married in the city somewhere, in a chapel at the reception venue. Now I’m getting married in the country side, in my FI’s childhood church and the reception will be on their farm. Absolutely nothing like I envisioned, but I’m super excited for it!

And I never thought I would buy a very expensive dress. I thought I would either get it made in China, or buy a off-the-rack type dress that could pass as a wedding dress. But then I got this huge bonus at work, and decided to buy the dress of my dreams.

Another thing – I always thought that my second cousins would be part of my wedding, but FI doesn’t want kids at the wedding, so we are having a child-less wedding

Actually – I must admit, nothing in our wedding is like I ever imagined. My whole vision changed as soon as FI and I started discussing our wedding

Get married in the city! FI and I both envisioned an outdoor, beachy wedding before we got engaged (and for awhile afterwards), but at my mom’s insistence, we looked at a few venues in the city as well. And we fell in LOVE. It totally changed the entire vision for our wedding, but it’s so much more us and we are so excited.

I never wanted roses as my flowers. And yet, now I have roses.

This is a weird one, but I never thought I would wear white/ivory! I always fantasized about wearing either a red ballgown or some cute unique blue Versace dress, lol. I hated the traditional “reasoning” behind a white dress. However, my mom convinced me that this was the one time it would be acceptable for me to wear white so why not take advantage of it? As a result, both my city hall wedding ceremony and reception dresses were white/ivory! 🙂

I had always thought I would have the ceremony on the beach at sunset just a few people then a reception in my parent’s back yard. I didn’t want a puffy dress, maybe a white knee high sun dress…

i had my wedding in October at 3pm at a very nice club in a huge puffy princess wedding gown… And I don’t regret a thing! 🙂

I never thought I would do pink or gold because I thought those colors were gaudy and over the top for weddings. Lo and behold, my color scheme is white with gold and blush accents and my girls are in floor length sequined gold gowns. Hm.

I swore I would not diy ANYTHING, I refused to have anything hand made in my wedding. Aaaand then I could not find anything I had been envisioning for sale anywhere, even online. I couldn’t find the perfect cake topper, so I had to make it by hand. I couldn’t find the perfect welcome bags so I had to buy the items separately and build them myself. I wasn’t happy with my Mr and Mrs signs so I worked on them a little after they arrived to make them perfect to my standards. I couldn’t find the right favors, so again, I had to buy the pieces myself and diy it.

HonoraryNerd:  I never thought I’d do a first look.  I didn’t care a bit about getting extra photo time and I thought I wanted him to see me for the first time coming down the aisle.  But then my photographer told me the benefit of calming the nerves and having that first-look moment intimately instead of in front of everyone you know, and that sold me, I knew I’d be a nervous wreck until I saw him.  We did it and I got to really enjoy the hour before the wedding instead of fretting that he’d hate my dress or have cold feet or something.  I’m a worrier…

Get married somewhere but in a church… and here I am getting married outdoors!
