My Fiancé keeps wanting to have something “different and us” at our wedding. He’s said for quite some time that he wanted to have an ice cream truck come to our hall for our guests (we would give tickets so only our guests could get an item, which will prevent guests at other weddings in our hall trying to get a treat). We also thought of the idea of having Tim Horton’s or McDonalds burgers out on the sweet table/late night station at the end of the night.
Just wondering if anyone else has done something similar to this. What was your unique food-related item and would you recommend it? Also, if you don’t mind sharing, what was the approximate cost of doing this?

- Wedding: September 2013 - Sodo Park
There is a really awesome ice cream truck in Seattle that people often get to come to their weddings!
Personally I wouldn’t bring McDonald’s in (but that’s because I don’t eat it) but if that would make you and your fiance happy then go for it! Doughnuts, however, would be much appreciated in my book. 🙂

Who doesn’t love icecream? It’s a brilliant idea:)

@Miss Campfire: LOL I don’t eat McDonalds at all (I have celiac disease, therefore I can’t have any food that has wheat flour in it). It would be for the guests. We have a lot of guests in their teens and 20s, so it might work for them. We both prefer the ice cream truck and tim horton’s over the mcdonalds, but we actually know someone who did mcdonalds so we know it’s possible to do!

At the end of the night, I’d be sooo all over some Tim Bits & Coffee !!
They’d be great on their own, or as an addition to a Midnight Buffet / Sweet Table.
And they please EVERYONE… young or old.
(Not so much with Fast Food Burgers… more often than not these days people don’t do fast food or McDonalds)
I like the idea of an Ice Cream / Food Truck too… but I think they tend to “seperate” the Guests as then you have some inside and some outside… and well it spurs some folks on to leave “as they are already in the Parking Lot”… and except for the younger Guests, I don’t so many Older ones GET IT.
Hope this helps,

@This Time Round: I totally agree!!! He REALLY wants the ice cream truck, but I don’t liek the guests having to leave the hall to go outside, and then perhaps staying out there. Our hall is also on the 3rd floor so even with elevators, it’s quite a hike!
I’m loving the timbits idea too!! And yes, I think tim’s is appropriate for people of all ages! Hopefully I can convince him!!

Maybe not fast food from a chain restaurant, but ice cream would be awesome and some delicious burgers! My mum loves to throw parties and she would have the Schwan truck come and people could get whatever they wanted for ice cream. I want that right now!

An ice cream truck sounds like a cute treat. Stacked Mcdonald’s burgers just sounds gross and nasty. I would go for the ice cream.

@This Time Round: Timbits would not please me. I’m a foody and I can’t stand Tim Horton’s – when they switched to par baking, I had been nearly done, and that was the final nail. I’d like to think I just wouldn’t have any myself, but at that point in the night I’d probably mutter and roll my eyes. I shouldn’t, but I think I might. But an Ice Cream truck? That’s just flat out fun! And it’s an event/experience, as well as a snack. Of course there are others who will roll their eyes at the ice cream truck, so ya know….
Do what you want. No one who likes McD’s or Timbits will NOT like ice cream, and YOu want ice cream, so have ice cream. Your wedding, your rules!

And I agree with secretlyabee: Burgers from McD’s WILL BE Gross & Nasty… (says the gal who worked there as a teenager). By the time they arrive (someone gonna go get them ??)… they’ll be less than perfect. Because if it is a large order… and we assume it will be for a Wedding, the burgers will be made in sets… so even if the last set will be warm (doubtful it will be anything close to hot) the first set made will be cold & greasy. Ick !!
Go with the Tim Bits, no issues with keeping things Hot or Cold, and you can pick them up a bit earlier in the day (maybe have someone do a run between the Ceremony and the Reception). And as a Canadian, I can tell you they’ll be a HIT for sure. Such an unexpected treat.
AND BONUS… any leftover (ya right like that is gonna happen) can be taken home.
Not so much with the Burgers… leftovers will be going in the trash !!
That said, ICE CREAM is a hit with just about everyone… no argument there.
But I’d personally rather see a Sundae Bar than an Ice Cream Truck. But that is probably just me (and oh ya, for the record, Mr TTR & I are both HUGE Food & Wine Lovers… but I still see a Food Truck at a Wedding as being problematic because of the reasons I’ve given earlier, and the fact that the OP has now revealed further location details)

@mrs-to-be-2014: Just a suggestion, but you can actually get Cold Stone Creamery or Marble Slab (the Cdn equivalent to Cold Stone) to come in to your reception and serve ice cream in the evening. I can’t remember how much it costs, but there’s a price per person. It could be a compromise so your guests don’t have to leave…
ETA: Here it is, it’s Marble Slab: http://marbleslab.ca/index.php/creamery/catering

@julies1949: OMG, Tiny Tom donuts…. lady, you’ve got me drooling over here!
OP, I don’t think you could go wrong with Tims or ice cream, so go with whatever you want or whatever is more feasible! Great idea to finish off the night with something fun 🙂

Ice cream gets my vote! yum. I would love that as a guest.
