I don't know if ya'll have this in Tx, but we used peach tea that you can purchase by the gallon at the grocery store. The brand here was Galligers I think, I imagine you would have something comparable down there. All of our guests raved about it, we purchased 12 gallons for 70 people and I think we had 1/2 a gallon left afterwards, we also served lemonade and bottled water, but the tea was an absolute hit. They make it in regular and diet.
I wouldn't do instant tea. I personally don't like the flavor of it. What if you were to purchase some gallons of tea that was already brewed? This is what I plan on doing for my reception.
We had pitchers of iced tea and lemonade as guests arrived so they could have something to drink before the ceremony. Our caterer handled this for us, but I imagine you could get large gallon size jugs at BJs or Costco.
Don't do instant tea--it tastes SOOOOOO awful, seriously. Just buy huge gallons of the pre-brewed or of Arizona. Peach and Blackberry are my two favorite flavors. Or, make suntea. It's so easy--you fill up gallon bottles with water, toss in some large lipton tea bags and set them out in the sun all day. The sun slowly brews them, you did minimal work, and it taste SMOOTH and refreshing. Doesn't even need sugar
Ugh, instant tea just tastes super weird!
Thanks for the suggestions guys.
Ejs4y8: I'm guessing the syrups are a bad option too? ugh. those just sound bad .... hmm.. i guess i'll have to shop around and see what i find...
Instant tea is nasty. My grandma makes sweet tea in the fridge all the time and it is very simple and fast to make. Fill a pitcher with water and ice, throw in a couple regular tea bags (does not matter what brand but most people I know prefer Lipton) and a bit of sugar (optional obviously), and stick it in the fridge for a least couple hours. That can easily be brewing while the ceremony is taking place.
You can buy iced tea by the gallon from places like Chick Fil A and Sams/Costco. Would that be an option?
Definitely buy the gallon jugs - if ya'll have Publix grocery stores, their's is the best! That's what we're doing for our lemonade.
texasmeredith: that would DEFINITELY be an option. the bad thing is that the ceremony and reception are in Galveston and they'll be back to back. I think I'll purchase whole gallons from Sams/ or even try Chick Fil-A. I didn't know they sold tea by the gallon. Another place i might try is the Olive Garden. Their raspberry tea is awesome :D (well, i think so.. lol..) thanks guys.. you saved my guests from horrible instant tea!
@Laylabelle, Publix iced tea and lemonade is the best! I don't know what the do to it to make it so good, I make my own iced tea all the time and it's never as good. I guess it's because I wasn't born in the south, so I didn't inherit the ability to make amazing sweet tea! ;-)
;[ we have no Publix down here, i wonder if they'd ship some of their tea and lemonade down here? eh, the worse they can say is No right? You guys make that stuff sound delicious! :P
Definitely don't go the instant route, ick!
Other than contacting Publix you could ask area cafes/restaurants. A couple places I have for you in Houston:
- Hobbit Cafe
- Zucchini's at the Westin Oaks
As far as serving, I like either big Apothecary jars with ladles like here:

(okay, that has a spout but I couldn't find exactly what I was going for)
or the traditional glass drink dispensers like this:

You could also always serve them in glass pitchers too.
I would recommend pre-brewed as well. if you can't do it yourself (ejs mentioned sun tea...that's my favorite, and so easy!), buy it by the gallons from a store. (Arizona is pretty good!)
Yes, I don't know why I didn't think of it sooner. I guess I was so focused on NOT brewing, that I forgot they sell gallons of brewed tea at the stores...lol That, and well, I'm not a big tea drinker myself. I just got back from the store and found some at some decent prices. I need to taste it though, but yay :D Plus, I won't have to mix the one that's instant. More time saved! :D :D :D
Chik Fil A or any BBQ joint will sell tea by the gallon--or even 5 gallons!

Has anyone seen it done? What are good brands? Of course, I'm talking about instant iced tea (i.e. Lipton or Nestle) that we wouldn't have to brew.
