Maybe use a few poles to help build SOMETHING to hang them from?
I agree with bruschetta, you need something. What about an arbor and poles at the back of the aisles?

A friend is getting married and wants to hang these pretty Martha Stewart eyelet lanterns (without lights, so they're very lightweight) over the spot in the garden where she and her fiance will be saying their vows. The problem? There are no walls or trees in sight. Any creative ideas as to how she can hang these lanterns overhead?
