Hello Bees! I am having a secular wedding – one friend will be the officiant, one friend will do a reading. I have 2 other friends I would like to include in the wedding in some meaningful way…..anyone have any good ideas? I don’t want to have them as ushers (we have people lined up for that too). There is the obvious “have 2 readings” but if anyone has seen or done something else, I am all ears! (Also, while I love ’em to death, neither friend can hold a tune in a bucket, so singing a pretty song is out). Thanks!

Maybe they can’t sing, but perhaps one or both of them can play an instrument?
Other than that and the traditional readings, I’m out of ideas. Wish I could be more help. :-

Hmm…that is a tough one. Are you having anyone announce the cake cutting, etc. during the wedding? Maybe they could be the “announcer”? Or second photographer/videographer? Passing out programs?

Perhaps one of them could offer the toast at the reception?

Maybe one could read a poem. Or give a speech. Or like MsJ26 said, announce something.
I’m kind of out of ideas other than that, assuming they are adults.

I know you are having a secular wedding, but having them light the two candles that surround the unity candle would be a touching symbol.

Thank you for the suggestions! We are getting married outside, so we will be doing the unity sand (instead of candle) but I think we will have our parents bring up the sand (the idea being the unification of the two families). After spending an awesome weekend with one of the girls, I think I am going to ask her to be my 5th BM. FI is also having an awesome weekend with one of his buds, whom I think he wants to to ask to be his 5th groomsman, so it should all work out. I was not super keen on having 5 BM’s, but I am changing my views – now I am just appreciative that I have some many wonderful friends who will stand up for me!
