I got all my maids the same thing- a suncatcher of the Claddagh symbol (the hands are for friendship, the crown is for loyalty, and the heart is for love) since it really summed up what was most important to me about them.
I didn't want to get jewelry or something that might not be to their tastes, and I didn't want to get them something that would just get packed away and never used.
I would suggest just nosing around on Etsy.com. You'd be amazed the stuff you'll stumble upon and something might really strike you as being perfect.
Im not sure if you are scrapbook'y but im definetly going to make my girls little photo albums with pictures of us together thru the years. Sentimental gifts, they can't complain!
&of course etsy is awesome!
My wedding is in June, and the weather here in central IL can be kind of unpredictable. I'm getting my BMs cute, frilly, girly umbrellas. In the event of a shower, they'll be covered--literally. Even if it doesn't rain, they'll be great sunblockers for our outdoor reception, and fantastic props for pictures. Besides, everyone could use an extra umbrella...why not have a cute one? :)
goodie bags are always fun, with food and mini bottles or cans of champagne. i tend to value things i can eat over things i can't, so anything food related would be amazing to me :) what about spa gift certificates or restaurant certificates?
starbucks is good to, or a DVD of a funny movie you all like.
I got mine pearls to go with there dresses its a classic and no one had them.
This is such a good question, I have been struggling with what to get them. If I had all the money in the world it would be easy but I want to get them something nice without breaking the bank. I was thinking of a nice tote with their initials and something else that is personalized for them. But what that is I have NO clue! I could do jewelry but its something everyone does and everyone's taste is so different your bound to get something someone doesn't like... hmmm..........
I gifted them jewelry and shoes for me, not them. I wanted a uniform look (at least for those things) so I was willing to shell out for it. Well, and the jewelry was handmade so it it did have a more personalized touch. I also offered to pay for hair for the same reason (3 of the 5 girls took me up on the offer).
As far as what I did for them: I made them tanks in their sizes that had the wedding date, bridesmaid, and their name on it. I also made glasses with beaded stems and their initial on it. Everything came in a bag I personalized with their names. Really though, these things weren't exactly the greatest quality since it was all handdone, but they were things that I thought they should have.
So the real gift was a gift card personalized for each girl: the book lover got one to Barnes and Noble, the coffee fiend one to Starbucks, and the three other girls actually got ones to places we have inside jokes/history at.
I blogged about this the other day - you can check out the post here:

I love the idea of doing something unique and personal for each girl. One problem I've seen happen is that someone thinks that someone else got more or a better gift. Hopefully your girls are above that petty stuff, but it's something to consider. What if you gave them all the same "type" of thing, but made it unique to each girl's personality. For example, give them all jewelry, but did something different for each girl (pearls for one, trendy necklace for another). Or give them all stationery, but personalized with each girl's name and a hobby or something?
@missomally has great ideas in hers!
I'm going to give them bags I got from cheap totes & fill it with goodies: jewelry, a BP flute, snacks/drinks/candy that's their favorite, jewelry roll & cosmetic bag, maybe a notepad/book & pen, flip flops for the reception & my mom mentioned a bottle of wine for the ones over 21 & something that the under 21 BM likes.
I think a beautiful frame in which they can put a photo of you with the BM and one of the whole bridal party is a lovely gift. It's always been my favorite when I've been a BM.
I had custom made towel wraps in my BM's favorite colors, with a cute ribbon, and their name embroidered on the bottom. I also bought them personalized coffee mugs and a silver plated picture frame with a little poem on one side and a picture of us at my shower on the other. I figured after the wedding they could replace the picture with a wedding picture.
So far, I have embroidered vintage hankies for each of them for the wedding. A bought them each fascinators to wear at the wedding and after. And then I am buying something personal for each of them. Domino book of decorating for the bridesmaid who just bought a home, funny t-shirts from etsy for the beach bum bridesmaid, etc
I think i'm going to make my girls little iphoto books filled with pictures and memories of our friendship over the years. Very personal and pretty unique I think :)
I'm not very creative so I got them spafinder.com gift certificates. I don't think they minded the lack of creativity :)
DCarole - I LOVE thoes towel wraps! How practical and useful! Any chance you have a DIY lesson you want to give on how to make them? And how do you get the names on the towel? All I can think of is glue gun. I'm not very crafty!

I keep going back and forth on what to get for my bridesmaids. I want to do something different than the traditional gifts (jewelry, clutches, etc), but am having a hard time coming up with ideas. What do you all think? And what about getting each girl something different to coincide with their personality and likes?
