I would say get a packet or two of rhinestones that you can glue on and arrange them on the cover (it sounds like it could look really nice if you just sorta scattered them around the top and sides. You could use a silver paint pen (or other color paint pen- a metallic would be nice to keep an elegant feel and would go well with the rhinestones) to write on the front of it in a pretty font!
At hobby lobby I found already set and sticky rhinestones in flourish shapes and also a "Mr. and Mrs." one made up already that I stuck to the outside of my DIY guest book. I also added a hot pink ribbon across the bottom with one of those rhinestone slider things that goes on the ribbon. I love the rhinestones on it, I think it makes it look sharp and professional.

Hello all,
I made a large journal from scratch in an art class a few years ago and never used it. I found it recently, and it's in good shape. It's large (about 11 x 17), covered in plain olive fabric and is filled with blank ivory pages bound by string. I really like it, but it's very plain.
I'd like to use the book as our guestbook, but I am looking for ideas for jazzing it up - fabric paint or markers come to mind, but I'm afraid it will end up looking like an elementary school art project if I go that route. Maybe glueing felt shapes on the cover?
Any ideas for elegant ways to spruce up a plain guest book?
Thank you in advance!
