The gift-giving part of this wedding has me exhausted. I have gifts for the bridal party, but I’m stymied on what to get my parents and his parents. They’re both contributing to the wedding. All of the ideas on Etsy seem kind of lame and contrived. Any great ideas?
Also, do I get a gift for the officiant?

@cmbr: Hey date twin!
Yeah…I have nothing for my father yet. I was thinking maybe a really nice bottle of liquor? I also need something small for other people who are helping with the wedding.
Also thinking about the officiant. I was thinking maybe a gift card to a nice meal for he and his wife?

@lotto: That’s a good idea. I was thinking about doing that for pretty much everybody left at this point! My parents are so weird — they don’t drink, they don’t go for the kitschy stuff (all of the picture frames and embroidered hankerchiefs on Etsy! ugh!), we’re too poor to send them on vacation. I think they’re all getting gift cards.
Our officiant is getting paid, but I don’t want to be the rude bride and not get him something if I’m expected to.
I haven’t picked up anything special for our two readers either. And I forgot about ushers. It never ends!!!

@cmbr: Ugh I know, I still have two readers, four ushers, and two people handing out programs. Our officiant isn’t getting paid, but we are covering his hotel room for the two nights.

I don’t know what we’ll do for our moms. Maybe a gift card for a massage, or a hair appointment? They don’t spend money on themselves, ever. So sometimes you have to force them to.
I think if my parents were still together (hah! weird to even think that) I’d buy them a date night as a gift. Movie theater gift cards, a gift certificate to a nice resturant, and maybe some champagne and treats.
I think it’s polite to get a gift for the officiant – they’re performing the most important task! 🙂 I think some people pick up things for their officiant during their honeymoon.
For our officiant, I will probably give her a giftcard to Starbucks (she has all of her client meetings there) and a bottle of nice vinegar (since she mentioned she loves vinegar, yum!).

Oh, BTW – buy giftcards/gift certificates at Costco (inexpensive, bulk, or discounted) or in bulk (some places let you buy 3 $10 giftcards in one $30 pack).
Also, Target will sometimes have a sale on iTunes giftcards. I got a $15 giftcard for $12 last time. Not too steep of a discount, but it was still nice to have.
