My FI suggested that he would like the groomsmen to be mismatched since the bridesmaids will be mismatched. The ladies will be wearing a convertible dress, so each one will be tied differently. Our colour is plum purple. I’m planning on making the boutonnieres, and will make them cohesive, yet mismatched. I don’t want to go overboard, but if any of you have any suggestions, let’s hear them!

You could probably do different types of purple ties in patterns and colors that compliment each other (and have them all in the same tux):

mildlybookish: You didn’t say if the men would be in tuxedos, suits or other. If they are wearing tuxes, you could mismatch the ties. With suits, the shirts and /or ties could be mismatched.
A more casual outfit would be grey pants (the same for all) various plum and purple shirts. They could wear the same or various ties, or no tie.
They could also do grey pants, the same plum shirt, a vest of their choice.

Depending on how casual you want, you can them in different parts of suits.
Groom would be most formal, complete suit (vest, jacket, tie),
Best Man in vest, tie, no jacket
Groomsmen no vest, tie, jacket of a different style
Groomsmen, no vest, tie,, suspenders or cumberbund
This depends on how many groomsmen there are. You could have vests in different fabric as well as diffferent ties (don’t know if that would be too busy, probably depends on patterns used) Maybe different shades of plum vests with different ties as well.
Another idea is different jacket styles, if you’d like them all in jackets. Again, not sure exaclty how this would look, one could have tails, one could be double-breasted, one could have different lapels for example. I’d have to see them together to really know for sure.
Hopefully, this helped you some! Good luck!

We asked the groomsmen to wear grey pants, grey vest and yellow buttondown shirts. Worked out great.

Ham1320: I really like the mismatched tie look. I think we might go in that direction.
My FI hasn’t decided yet what he is wishing to wear, so I don’t know whether they will be suits or tuxs. I think a tux might be too formal, although our wedding is not super casual.
But I am planning on making the boutonieres and will probably make them mismatched.
This is kind of the look that I am picturing. Not sure if we will go with a textured jacket like this or just a solid dark grey.
And the idea for the bouts (but also picture a single ivory flower)
And of course there are always socks!
