I would try to look for inexpensive shallow baskets to make it look more organized. Play with layers and tiers. Keep like and complementary foods together.

There are lots of great appetizer ideas..one of my favorite is Mexican Shrimp Cocktail (you can find the recipe on allrecipes.com)..We serve it in martini glasses (plaistic is fine)  and put about 4 shrmp in each one..it looks nice and people love it. It adds a little extra something to the standard appetizers.  Another idea is a good olive ‘salad"..mixed olives with a little extra olive oil, red pepper flakes and a ‘tiny bit of vinegar.  Finally, we make ‘trumpets’ which everyone loves. Its a mixture of cream cheese, basil, garlic and parmesan cheese (use food processor or hand mixer)..then buy salami and cut in half…Roll thin slices into a trumpet shape (small on one end)…fill with mixture.  Use a pastry bag..it’s kind of messy but really really good.
