So our receptions is going to be held in the fellowship hall of that adjoins the chapel where we are getting married- super easy for guests :) BUT the hall also doubles as the church's gym as well. I need ideas to help with decorating the basketball hoops that are attached to the walls!!! I hate them. The lines on the floor I'm not too worried about since the tables will cover a lot of that and the walls don't look like a typical gym, my issue is the hoops. We are on an EXTREMELY tight budget so Mr. S suggested we drape sheets over them, but I just don't know... anyone have experience with this sort of thing??

Sheets would have been my suggestion.  You can get those really cheap Kmart ones and put light under them then they will kind of twinkle.

If you'd rather do something else, I would suggest turning some table runners into "banners". I'd be careful with sheets - the hoops might show through.

You can paint them with monograms, patterns, or just leave them blank.

Though, I would be careful. Decorating them might just draw more attention to them. Maybe focus that money on the centerpieces instead?

I'm a wedding planner and I remember when I took my first class, she said DO NOT DECORATE basketball goals because it only brings more attention to it.  We had originally decided that we were going to hold ours at church but have since changed our minds.  Anyway, I like the ideas of the table runners or doing something with minimal draping so that it hides them but doesn't bring too much attention. I would suggest doing something not just over the basketball goals.  It will bring a cohesiveness to it.  I've never had a wedding where the goals weren't movable.  We were always able to fold them up and it didn't even seem to be an issue.  Oh you may be able to rent a tall screen with fabric or even make one out of PVC pipe... Good luck!

    Thanks for the ideas!

@MrsB-to-B  Everywhere I've been the hoops can fold up towards the ceiling, but unfortunately the way the gym is designed they are attached to the walls at either end of the gym. FI did briefly talk about making some sort of box-like contraption to sit over to cover, but I don't know how much the church would like that!
