A reader just mentioned on Miss Joey's post that she met her FI on Craigslist! That's sure to be an interesting story :)
http://www.weddingbee.com/2009/03/25/oh-craig-how-i-love-you-and-your-list/
I always love hearing how couples met. A lot of meetings seem like 1 in a million shots! Like if the train weren't late that day, I wouldn't have sat next to my future FI on the late train.
Do you have an unusual chance meeting story, or do you credit your relationship to a certain event or happening? I don't really have a great one... I guess that if the majority of the boys on my dorm floor didn't join Mr. Peng's fraternity and take me to their date parties, I probably would have never met Mr. Peng... but that's pretty lame... I probably would have met him eventually :)
Top my story! Won't be hard, haha.
If it weren't for ____, I wouldn't have met my FI!
If it weren't for Craigslist, I wouldn't have met my FI! Thanks Craig!!!! :)
If it weren't for my hometown redrawing the district line right when my family moved from Philly -- and I was all of three months old -- I never would have been on the "west" side of town, and actually would have ended up going to a different high school than Mr. Bruschetta!
Craigslist? Please elaborate!
If it weren't for my university's bookstore (where we worked together, even though FI was not a student), I would not have met my FI.
If it weren't for watermelon soaked in vodka, I wouldn't have met my fiance!
Ha! I swear we weren't drunk ... we were just intrigued! We were both at a summer party being thrown by someone neither of us knew. The host had soaked a watermelon overnight with vodka because it was supposed to taste good, umm boy was she wrong! It was terrible. My fiance and I had never met before but we dared each other to try a piece because it just looked so gross. We both did it, and the rest is history! (More or less, ha!)
If it weren't for having drinks with my volunteer group after a community park refurbishing project where a friend talked about how she met her fiance on match.com, I would not have gone home that night, gone online and met my fiance!
Just like happilywaiting... If it weren't for Craigslist, I wouldn't have met my FI!
if it weren't for 9/11, I wouldn't have met Mr. Bee! My business problems were a direct result of 9/11 and I blogged about them. If I'd never blogged about them, Mr. Bee would never have contacted me!
If it weren't for my FI going on a business trip, searching for girls who went to OU on MySpace, and sending me a message (along with me actually answering him) we wouldn't be together! And to go back even further, if his sister hadn't introduced him to MySpace he never would have thought to join. I think about this kind of stuff all the time. I'm always saying if such and such never happened none of this would be going on.
If it weren't for a last minute college decision (which I hated for the first year) and my grandfather, I wouldn't have met my fiance!
I met my fiance while I was in a college I only went to because my parents didn't want me to move far away. I was bitter when I broke up with an old bf, but ended up starting to date my fiance because he went to the same church my grandparents went to and he loved my grandfather! That was what our first conversation was about!
If it wasn't for my SIL (my bro's wife) and her step-mom (my FI's aunt), I wouldn't have met my FI! Their meddling & scheming got us together and we are forever grateful!
If it weren't for swing dancing then I would never have met my husband.
I actually started dancing because of an ex-boyfriend! It stuck, he didn't.
If is wasn't for my best friend and now MOH I never would have met my FI! She introduced us years ago and we date for a very short time, and then she re introduced us on NYE 07!
I gotta hear more of these Craigslist stories! Like were they "I bought my IKEA couch from him" kind of stories or were they dating ad stories?
if it were'nt for lambs and the FFA (high school!) i wouldnt of met my fiance.
If it weren't for the X-games (and my home resort), I wouldn't have met fiance.
if it weren't for my ex-bf inviting me to the club i wouldn't have met my FI!
if it wasn't for him having to miss his plane he wouldn't have met me!
it was meant to be..
If it weren't for the 2004 presidential election, I wouldn't have met my FI. We meet campaigning.
If it weren't for computer science and UCSD then I never would have met my FI! We are a match made in the computer lab! <3
I'm with Pengy, you ladies with Craigslist stories really must elaborate!
If it weren't for BEST BUY I wouldn't have met my love! His best friend worked there in the Geek Squad and I worked at customer service.
And in another way if it weren't for Dance Dance Revolution I wouldn't have met him either.. I came over to our mutual friends' place to play DDR and that's when we met.
if it weren't for match.com and a still anonymous person who signed me up I wouldn't have met my geek (even though we were in many of the same places b/c we lived less than a mile from each other).
If it weren't for my ex-boyfriend, I would not have met my FI! Thanks for introducing me, ex-boyfriend! Muahaha ;)
To elaborate on my Craigslist story: I used to read the personals for a good laugh. One day, on a whim, I posted one of my own. My FI responded and here we are getting married 3+ years later!
If it weren't for a crazy ex-friend I wouldn't have meet my FI. He was dating her at the time we met, she was crazy, in the end we have each other and not her.
If it weren't for Physics lab...I would never have met my sweetie! Our teacher made us sit in alphabetical order and we got stuck as lab partners!
If it weren't for the random girl who I met in my dorm hallway...who later became my best college friend...who later set me up with my FI...even though he was interested in HER and didn't even know me...we wouldn't be where we are now!
If I weren't for my friend forcing me to go out, I would of never met my FI.
LITERALLY I was in bed ready to go to sleep, when my friend showed up at my apt and dragged me out of bed to go out on the town with her, later that night I met my FI!
If my ex and i didn't break up when we did i wouldn't have had such a strong desire to move across the country to get away, if I hadn't been in Tucson (the cheapest ticket to austin), if i hadn't accepted a last minute work trip to austin, if i hadn't gone to Bar six or gone upstairs or gotten hit with his elbow.
If he hadn't gone to the SXSW web conference that year, if he had gone home earlier, if he never came back for my number...
we always marvel at "if it hadn't been for _____" we would have never met. It really is nuts the way things work out eh? :)
Here's my CL story - after dating someone from Match.com for a few months and realizing he was not the right guy for me, a friend suggested I check out Craigslist.
I saw his ad in the personals but didn't get up the nerve to respond for 3 more weeks (checking every few days to see if he was still there & swoon over how cute he looked).
I finally responded to his ad & he emailed me back that night. Two days later we met for our first date & I knew by the time I got home that night that he was "The One".
He always says that he found me (since he put up the ad) and I say I found him...lol
If it weren't for, BUNAC, the company that organised my working holiday visa to Australia, I never would have met my FI.
They sent out this mass email to about 40 people they secured visas for. Annoying at the time because all these randoms now had my email and everyone started emailing each other "Let's meet up in Australia!" There ended up being another guy on this email chain from Boston who my friend and I did meet up with. His roomate in Australia worked with my now FI. They had a housewarming party at some point and FI and I were both were invited. So thank you BUNAC for sharing my personal details with strangers! :)
I love this thread!!
If I had chosen the job with more money, we wouldn't have met.
I was debating between two job offers and while one had way more money, it just seemed like a bad fit personality-wise. At the last minute I took the other job and met my FI (who worked in another department) within a month of my start date. We have been together ever since
If it weren't for my homesickness, I wouldn't have dated my FI! Okay, I changed the line, but we worked together before I moved away, but weren't interested (or didn't know it yet) in each other. Six months in Seattle and I was homesick. When I moved back home, we started hanging out and then he asked me out officially and we've been together almost a year and a half and getting married next year!
If it wasn't for my best friend from HS (now my MOH) choosing her small, private, liberal arts college over a Big 10, ginormous party school (like me) I would have never met my FI.
If it wasn't for my girlfriend walking off with a random guy at our favorite bar/club, i never would have met my DH! I love telling people I met my husband at a bar :D
If it wasn't for this guy I had a crush on in high school i would never have been introduced to one of his friends (my FI)
If it weren't for yahoo personals we would never have met :) Funny thing is we had chatted years prior to us meeting on mIRC in #California about bands we like. We didn't figure that out till after a year of us being together.
We're geeks!
If it wasn't for police academy then I wouldn't have met my husband.
My husband wasn't planning on attending the academy in my town but his psycho girlfriend at the time, helped push him to apply for it when she gave him an ultimatum of law enforcement or her: So of course he chose law enforcement, his lifelong dream, and applied to the academy two days before it started. Luckily, he got in and got hired by the sheriff's office for my county. He ended up becoming roommates with a city officer that liked me but was just a friend to me. I ended up seeing him on myspace and thought he was really cute and said Hi to him one night in dispatch. Later, that night I heard him pull over a car in town so I backed him up. After the traffic stop we stood there and talked among our flashing lights. I mentioned that i had a myspace page and the next day he left me a message with his phone number. He said that him and some other deputies were going to breakfast later and to call him if i wanted to go. So we had breakfast at 4:00am in country kitchen, by ourselves. From then on we were always on the phone or hanging out. Our first date was amazing and we knew that it was meant to be.
