What do you mean by “The SAHS will make the same as what the two of you combined make right now”?  Is the SAHS working from home?  Or do you mean the working spouse will make the same?

I would rather do it because I have more “domestic motivation” and my husband loves it when I’m home and taking care of the house. It would be a win win if it were to have to happen.

I think I would HAVE to be the SAHS since my SO doesn’t really clean or cook well.

But honestly, I would much rather be the worker!

Me all the way! He doesn’t really do dishes…or cook…or clean. I can’t say I love any of that besides cooking, but I would prefer to have a clean house without dishes piled up in the sink. But in this scenario I also have some volunteer work on a regular basis because I would get so bored or feel bad about doing nothing after so long.

I would actually like to be the working spouse, but my FI seems to leave a trail of mess and has a very loose sense of the word ‘clean’, so I’d rather if I had to be the stay and home spouse so that the house is clean enough that the health department doesn’t visit.

I’d suck it up & be the SAHW because my SO would go absolutely CRAZY staying at home! If she’s out of work for 3 days she’s going stir crazy. She has passion for what she does…I just kinda like what I do.

I’d have to volunteer or do something to get through it though. If not I’d get depressed & feel so shitty

@Bubbles42:  I’d rather my husband stay at home. He’s more particular about cleaning, while we’re equally good cooks, I’d love to just eat his cooking during the week for forever, as long as I could cook on the weekends. I know he would love the time at home to do renovations and to work on his writing. I sincerely hope we can have that arrangement some day.

Cooking is a skill that can be learned, you know! 😉 Just like any hobby, it just takes some initial effort to dive in! And some cookbooks to learn from!

Ugh, I know in a possible world it would be me working. I have a Masters degree….well, you know what, maybe I’m not giving my FI enough credit. It could be either of us. I know I wouldnt have a problem with a hunkey House Husband (in this reality, we already have our dream home, right?) Doing all the house work and cooking ME dinner, and the laundry! Sign me up.

Downside: My dad (while being an awesome husband and and father) could never hold down a job so I knew if such a reality becomes possible my mom would have WAY more of a problem with me being the working spouce than I would..

No way could I ever be a housewife….unless my job was to be a professional gardener in my own home.

Honestly, I’d be cool with either way. If my husband came home tomorrow and told me he wanted to be a stay at home husband, I’d tell him we’d have to move to a smaller house but I’d do it. He definitely makes more than I would due to his time in the Navy.
