I have no idea why but when people talk to me they tend to think I am some kind of party person and they don't believe me when I say I'm mellow and hang out at home and actually lead a fairly boring life :)  And pretty much everyone is shocked that I listen to metal.

i have no idea! Maybe that, unless I am with a group of really close friends or I'm talking feminist/queer theory, I tend to be quite and twitch a lot. I am not over the top (much) and i don't say things like OMG! and GOR-GE-OUS! and FAB-U-LOUS! in person. Also, I never wear make up, high heels, or fancy clothes. I have been told that, despite growing up and living in Wisconsin for 25 out of 26 years of my life, when I get in the right mood, I sound either Texan (i blame my Taxan mom for this) or British (I blame living in Vancouver, BC for a year for this).

Most people who know me in person have zero idea that I am autistic. I have been told that I come across as dreamy, in my own world, and stubborn. I work hard to make sure no one knows how hard I work to appear normal.

Oh wow Rabbit... that's pretty amazing that you are able to overcome an obstacle like that! And that would surprise me, because here, you are very engaged in our boards! PS-I'm not sure I ever responded to your PM. Sorry if I didn't..I got really busy that week!

@rabbit - as a teacher for autistic children I love the dreamy, in their own worldness they have. make sure you keep those qualities! they make you who you are (and people out there appreciate them)!

Oh, i remember one that always gets everyone. I'm 32 and everyone thinks I'm 18. Especially if I'm in no makeup/hoodie/jeans/ponytail. I really hate it, actually, because I'm talked down to quite a bit.

I got a lot of "Oh no, why rush things? You're too young to get married" from people. Then I told them my age... and.... crickets.

I think I have to agree with some other bees that I'm usually quieter when I first meet people.  I used to be painfully shy but I have been trying to work on it and I am improving from where I was.

I'm an adventure junkie - I've tried (and loved) skydiving, shark-cage diving, kayaking in the Bermuda Triangle and swimming with manta rays.  People just look at me and assume I wouldn't want to get my hands dirty or feet wet!

Haha, I'm the total opposite of some of you.  I assume all jokes are clean, and I'll laugh along with everyone until Mr. Parfait explains it to me later.  Like all the recent Shake Weight jokes--totally didn't understand what all the fuss was about.

But I think the most surprising thing would be my voice.  I sound like a six year old, and whenever I answer a telemarketer's call, they're like, "Hi, is your mommy or daddy home?"  GOSH, some people...

Like a lot of the ladies here, I think people would be surprised at my foul, foul language in person! I think people get the idea that all Bees are sweet, soft little brides, but that's not necessarily true for all of us... we just blog that way. Wink

@Layla: I feel ya sister. A lot of people think I look like I'm still in high school, and I'm not exaggerating. And then when I complain about it, all I get is how I should be happy to look so young. But damnit, no one takes me seriously at work and it makes me SO mad! I mean what exactly is a 28 year old supposed to look like? I'd love to know! LOL

@ej - HAHAHA! I wanted to say that last night - that's what I meant by not being girly. Anywhere but WB, I usually can't stand talking about wedding plans. LOL

@Miss. Parfait - I TOTALLY get that too! My voice is much higher than it sounds in my head - I hate when I hear myself on other people's voicemail or on camera or something. I blame my mom, she gets the same thing.

Haha, usually just, "No, this is my cell phone."  By then, they've basically ruined whatever pitch they were going to make, so I can end the conversation pretty fast. :P

I think people would find that I'm more outgoing in real life than I can be on the boards.  I talk, a lot!

people might also be surprised at my age.

    Hmm....

    1) I have a potty mouth. I'm the worst with the F word, sometimes it just seems so fitting in a sentence so I let it fly all the time. My hubby used to complain about my swearing but I think it's rubbed off on him cuz he swears just as much as I do now. Oops.

    2) I'm shy at first.

    3) After getting over being shy, I laugh really loudly sometimes and I have a really weird/sarcastic/silly sense of humor. I love to make jokes. And of course I laugh (loudly) at my own.

    4) I also look like I'm 16 instead of 26 but maybe you can tell that from pics I've posted.

Maybe that I wear glasses almost every day?  (Since in my WB photo I'm wearing contacts.)

I don't know this, but I assume that people are surprised when they find out I'm from a small, conservative town b/c I am no a small-town kinda person at all!

who is this mysterious Hotchild then!?

I think I act the same in life as i do on the boards, but I think I express my opinion a little less here, since it's a more positive community.  It's hard to convey tone and some people take posts the wrong way, so I just don't post.

Well, I think a lot of people are surprised that because of my Mother's job, I grew up moving a lot and lived in five countries. This discussion always spurs a lot of questions---some like "But you seem very American" annoy me. I always have to point out that I AM an American, who was raised by American parents, hence why I act American, haha

People who do not know me are also often suprised that I live in Cleveland, Ohio. It seems that people have negative associations/stereotypes about Cleveland. Not to sound snotty, but no, I don't real want to talk about the spoof Cleveland "tourism" videos put on youtube last year! In my opinon those videos are just very very negative. I actually love Cleveland, its many interesting and funky neighborhoods, restaurants etc... People seem confused that I would want to continue living here, but this is where FI is from, we like it here, both have good jobs, own a beautiful home, so why not!

I'm not sure what people would be surprised about...  I'm pretty open here and have at one point or another completely described myself...

@cinemaparadiso  I'm going to need you to hook me up with a recipe for shrimp and grits ASAP!  LOL.  I was talking with a coworker not 10 minutes ago about wanting an authentic recipe for that!  NO ONE that I know here can make it...  please help :)

That I really am 6'3". Everybody forgets that, then they see me in person and are all WOAHDANG.

I also am terribly shy until someone says the first word. Then you can't shut my ass up. :p

Oh yeah, and I'm the palest person on the planet.

I'm late to jump on this bandwagon, but OMG FIREFLY SWEET TEA VODKA. I bought my first bottle last week and I am SO in love with it. It will mess you UP if you're not careful, though. Not to me, of course, but I've seen it do baaaaad things.

Also, I forget that people know I'm from Atlanta/ the south, but I don't have an accent at ALL.  Some words I draw out a little bit but for the most part, I'm pretty flat.

Ditto. Living in Boston made me kill my accent swiftly. No one can tell where I'm from, unless I'm pissed off. lol
